Why do a certain type of person bring this complete and utter crap up now and again

You simply make a fool of yourself with that rubbish.

Btw, your towbar (not toebar) connection is a protrusion. Hence it needs to be checked it is not loose or damaged in a way it can cause injury to someone who may inadvertently hit off it with their leg.

Well in the past those repairs with filler should have failed, simple as. Slapping filler into it is not the right way of repairing rusted sills. By the manual as has been stated by others the only acceptable repair is a seam welded repair, its the same with the MOT. Regarding me offering "services" I have helped numerous Boards members over the years without looking for payment. Some have given a token payment or bought me some beer, I believe in helping others where I can as other members have helped me out in the past. I was in a position today to help out as I was working on another car today and had the welder set up.

I can see the isopon repair passing tests if done in advance but if I was an inspector that failed a car on that type of rust, no way would I pass a botch repair with filler when retesting.

If you're happy with the car otherwise just pay the few hundred to get the rust cleared away fully and a plate welded on.

I did similar in the past with a 1999 Nissan Almera. Thing was indestructible in general but had a small hole on the underbody. Local garage did a proper job welding a plate on for less than 300. Said the hole was pretty big by the time they cleaned all the bad metal away!

My gf had a micra 2000 few years ago small bit of rust in the same type of area. About a couple of fingers width, not big. I removed the rust and put fibre glass on and gave it a spray can job. Looked pretty neat and I was pretty chuffed...

The lad in the NCT stuck a screw driver through it and ripped it off and failed the car. The car was subsequently scrapped, it was a shame but the cost of fixing it and potentially another "patch" somewhere else… decided to put the money into another car.

Just failed for a hole on door sill. I asked does it need to be welded but he said just filler would do.

Is sandpaper and isopon all I need for the repair?

You’ll have to put a screwdriver into it and all around it and chip out all the bits that aren’t solid. Then fill the hole with Isopon

That looks more like the bottom of the wing instead of the sill

P40 has fibreglass strands in it which is better for holes but harder to finish. P38 is more cream for dents & easier to finish.
