The Garda haven't asked for unlimited powers. Are you happy for the Garda to have no power and those intent on crime to be empowered by that.

“supporting” legislation that you don’t understand, just because the Gardai “asked” for it, is not a reason to be in favour of said legislation - tell me why this legislation is important - it should be a simple question to answer if you’re in favour of it, which you obviously are.

pointless legislation to solve a non-existent issue/problem.

if gardai are in a situation where they are going to ask someone to remove their mask they are in a situation where they are going to be taking that someone to the station anyway, where upon arrival they can already remove it as it is.

i can't see gardai bothering with this anyway as they have big fish to fry but time will tell, should this be passed.

The the legislation has been explained. People implying its pulling the hood over their rights is ironic. What about the rights of the people who are victims of these crimes or suffer intimidation. Mr Blobby in his snood is not being oppressed by the Chinese state.

Kinda is the same issue if your implying the Garda won't enforce the legislation they are asking for. Does that mean all the legislation they don't enforce is pointless. Illegal eScooters, speeding etc.

Harris was all about chasing the small fry. Remains to be seen what the successor will be like.

The fact that a person can be arrested purely for refusing to remove the mask (regardless of them having our being under suspicion of committing a crime) is the element of the law that is most sinister.

They are always trying to paperclip dystopian-level elements to what seems, on the face of it, like trivial laws. The Garda body cams being the perfect example, with Harris trying to slip the facial recognition in there with it.

So now Garda body cams are a bad idea.

There a pattern on this thread, not wanting to be filmed but happy to (selectively) film others. Wanting their rights protected, but happy to (selectively) disregard the rights of others.

When there is a deluge of false positives in the courts. Then you can claim it doesn't work. But if they don't enforce it, that will never happen anyway. Can't be both.

But this is the whole point.

The world is changing. it Used to be fine to do this, but now governments have facial recognition facilities and large databases with your data. You would have to be crazy to go on any kind of protest now without your identity hidden.

Governments change and the world is quickly becoming more and more authoritarian.
