Got a 48 SIM on the post today and the Activation Code on it is blank. Anyone ever come across this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 457 ✭✭strawdog

Yeah was same for me, there's instructions on website when activating, click on lost code and you enter a code from there with the number on the sim card and it works the same as the code

Yes, mine arrived today and it was the same. 48 customer care were dire to deal with, I just ended up ordering another one instead.

Ordered the phone earlier as a Christmas present, money went from account and after I clicked “Approved in banking app” (the bank verification at payment page) it just refreshed and said cancelled, it gave me a phone number to call or try again? Got the “contract” via email but no receipt of order, assuming it didn’t go through and VFs customer service are horrible to deal with. Will try order again but I don’t want to be €400 out of pocket for a while if it doesn’t go through again

What's the easiest way to get 48 SIM? Sorry for the basic question.

Easiest way is to go to Dealz, they sell them at the checkouts.

Beyond dealz are there other shops that sell 48 Sims?

    Is this a good phone.

    Would the camera be good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 763 ✭✭✭Lustrum

I was having this problem aswell, tried three different browsers on three different devices and it failed on all of them. Eventually just went into a Vodafone shop and did it there and am typing this of the new phone, thanks to all for the heads up

Just order one on their website. They come quick enough.

It looks like the code is blank on them all. As mentioned above, you can use the number on the sim card. It explains when you're trying to activate. Just click on 'Lost Activation Code' or something like that.

I am getting the order option greyed out. What am I missing here?

Its a great phone with a great camera - wont get better value.

Plus the Pixel 9a will receive both software (OS) & security updates until April 2032.

Pixels also receive Android updates first.

Could be the esim, try with physical SIM, bought a 9a from Vodafone in one of the promos a while back, the esim install has to be done in store for some inexplicable reason, try ordering the physical

Yes but recent owners will tell you that Google will ruin your battery life with a forced update long before then.

Looks like only pink color available to order now :/

Was gonna maybe pick up a couple more for gifts. :/

VF generally update their stock levels as it is made available - seen this with previous A series on sale. I would hold off a couple of days and see if they get updated.

Its a fair point - time will tell. But then again, no battery is going to last 7+ years without degredation. 2 things in the 9a's favour is the size of the battery at 5100mAh and the most efficient Tensor G4.

The 6a had thermal issues which warranted Google pushing out throttling to manage. Some 7a's had swelling which they addressed through a compensation scheme. We had both of those phones in our house but never had any issues. You would like to think they do not want a repeat of either of these things and that the core cell and thermal design will not suffer from the same systemic flaws.

Google have built in a battery management tool in the 9a which isn't optional. It can't be turned off. They're obviously still worried about the quality of the batteries.

    Battery health assistance

    Important:

    • This feature is available on Pixel 6a and later.
    • On Pixel 9a and later, this feature is on by default and can’t be turned off.
    • The feature is not available on Pixel Tablet.

Lithium-ion batteries are consumable components that eventually require replacement. As your battery ages, Battery health assistance helps manage its long term health and performance. This software adjusts the battery’s maximum voltage in stages. It starts at 200 charge cycles and continues gradually until 1000 charge cycles. This helps stabilize battery performance and aging.

As your battery ages, you may notice small decreases in your battery’s runtime. Based on adjusted capacity, Battery health assistance also tunes the phone’s charging speed. You may notice a slight change in battery charging performance.

I have received a lyca sim, do I need to pay to activate it or how do I go about receiving the verification text from VF?

Ok so girlfriend is on Sky Bill Pay. Is there any way I can order this phone for E199 without messing with the Sky contact/number ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,855 ✭✭✭rizzee

2nd time lucky, chose a different colour and got the confirmation. Fingers crossed now.

Its not they are necessarily worried but more so about maintaining battery health.

If you want a device thats going to last more than a couple of years (as Google now offer through extended updates), the battery needs to be maintained. Battery characteristics are quite complex, and most people (myself included) have no interested in understanding/interest in this. I just want to charge and use my phone.

Unfortunately heat and fast-charging (especially to 100%) are the biggest culprits. For maximum longevity, its generally recommended to keep charge levels a between 20% and 80%, but practically this isn't convenient. Full discharges (down to 0%) and prolonged periods at 100% also can cause strain. Therefore software battery management helps counter the charging behaviour by the end user.

    Mine arrived this morning!

    For anyone interested:

    1. The €9.75 Lyca Esim WORKS if you don't want to wait for a physical eim

    2. Got no dispatch email from Vodafone, just an order confirmation! Use this to get your tracking on their site.

For those who bought this from Three, there was an explanation of how to avail of the porting price, without having to purchase the 20 euro credit?

Something about using a cheap Lyca number for the order, then just put in your own SIM card when it arrives?

Shop sales person said I'd somehow be obliged to get the 20 euro credit to avail of the porting offer?
