Are there any guidelines for window sizes for a domestic dwelling design?

From an energy perspective small to north and large to south makes sense but are there wall to window area ratio rules of thumb/guidelines?

    Thanks as always

Most if not all Councils will have a "good design guide" as part of their County Development Plans" so I would suggest having a look there first. Cork CoCo's design guide is often referenced in Donegal so that could be worth a peep. In saying all that the location (urban or rural) plays a major part.
