Integrating a freestanding fridge

We are doing the kitchen and I want an integrated fridge. But the integrated fridges are so much smaller inside than the freestanding ones and I’d like as much space as possible for food. There’s a shallow alcove at the end of the kitchen where the fridge is going, around 18cm deep and over a meter wide. Originally we were going to box it out so the cabinet fronts are aligned but now I’m wondering I could somehow use that depth to put in a freestanding fridge and then add a kitchen door to it. Anybody experience with this type of thing?

Could you make a doorless box around the appliance? Would tidy up the area but still give you the larger capacity. You could even put a small cupboard above it.
