Is this normal.

I get my old toyota hybrid serviced in toyota as they do a battery check and guarantee, but I also get some "minor" repairs done as it's convenient at the time.

But I need a ball joint replacement and toyotas price is off the chart.

I believe in oem parts as I had non oem drop links not last 12months and ended up paying toyota in the end.

So I bought the toyota ball joint and a local garage in D15 refused to do the work as they didn't buy it and cannot stand over the warranty! It's a boxed unopened genuine toyota part with paperwork.

Is this normal for a garage these days?

Nothing unnormal or unusual about some garages to refuse to fit parts they didn't supply, depends on the business.

Many garages have policies like this, go elsewhere.

Indy. My mechanic is only delighted when I source parts. Saves him the hassle. Local factors even give me his discount when I mention him by name.

Yes completely normal. You’ll find someone to do it eventually tho.

Garage 50m beside original place, said no also, then seen boxed part and paper work and has agreed to do it, price is a little rich, as I'm guessing he's charging me for the part he's not buying. €150 including tracking.

So with a total price of €240 using toyota part Vs €568 with toyota.

Any reason you didn’t just buy an aftermarket balljoint since you were trying to save money? I bought one for a Prius recently and only paid €20 or something.

Many garages will have that policy as a general rule.

Garages have a profit margin on supplied parts which they miss out on if customers supply their own.

A bigger issue is that customers supplying their own parts typically source shite. This leads to disputes down the road when the thing fails. Indeed it might not even fit in the first place which upsets the whole workflow in the garage.

its normal and sensible on the part of the garage. Unless you have a long standing relationship with them and they know you're not a idiot, they are going to be rightly wary of fitting parts that you supply.

Turning up to a garage, parts in hand wanting them to fit them will generally mark you out as a gobsh*te or problematic customer. There are certain "cohorts" that are renowned for this type of behaviour. I'll say no more about that!

Fairly normal OP and nothing new in the industry, just a matter of keep calling around to find one who will as you've done.

Still a very good saving in fairness if you only want OEM parts, and the €150 labour is reasonable.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Yes, like I said, I got a garage to supply and fit aftermarket drop links, and they didn't last 12 months, one completely snapped, and the garage response was, "they normally last longer than that". So I ended up paying toyota for the job, expensive lesson.
