Illness benefit query

Hi. I am working on a ce scheme. Before that i was on disability.

I am out sick at the moment and am not confident i will be fit for work before the certs run out.

I mean certs from my doctor and given by me to the CE employer.

I have a cert for this week and after that i can get another cert for two hours, plus un-certified leave for an hour and a half and 25 hours holiday leave.

My administrator told me me to apply for long term sick pay.

I went to social welfare office and was told i needed to apply for illness benefit.

But I also need to apply for supplementary welfare allowance .

This is because I would be around 100 euro short if only getting illness benefit.

I am not entitled to the full amount

I have the two forms here but cannot send away, because of lack of bank statements and some information. Unfortunately i have to get bank statements by post.

The lady in social welfare told me it takes a while for illness benefit payment to be sent out

but the swa payment should be fairly quick.

Obviously i am concerned about having full payment next week.

So if there was a delay in getting the illness benefit payment, would i get the full payment from SWA until i got payment from illness benefit?

Although i do have the option of using up some of my holiday if needed.

I am also wondering if I can just go back on disability or jobseekers until i feel well enough to work.

Also should i send in information I already have, while waiting for bank statements or send it all in together?

If you were on DA prior to starting the CE,it is Temporarilysuspended.,

I would advise you to speak to your CE supervisor & request finishing , due to illness.

Once you get a letter stating end date ,Send it to the DA Team & request reactivation of your DA

Thank you. I did mention that to the lady in the social welfare office. But she told me that i would have to reapply for DA again.

But I'm sure, I was told when I went on the ce scheme, that i could go back on disability whenever I needed to.

I guess the best thing to do is try and contact the disabilty section tomorrow and see what they say.

Yeah intreo offices know very little about sick pay schemes unfortunately as they're not processed there. You probably can go back onto your DA claim but will need something signed by your CE supervisor to get that process moving. Call DA in the morning and explain the situation and they should be able to help you.

In terms of applying for IB, it probably would take a couple of weeks to get up and running due to the CE scheme. If you're entitled to SWA (means tested as you now know) you would get full rate for that until the IB claim is resolved, then you would get that reduced and be paid on your IB claim as well. Total I think is 2 euro less on SWA than Max rate IB which is 244 per week.

Thank you very much. I phoned up DA section and was told all i need to go back on disability is a letter from employer saying when i finished work.

But like IB, that will take a few weeks.

So I can apply for SWA while waiting and if necessary use up holday time

But have to wait for bank statements in post.

Going DA instead of IB is the better option for me

I would ignore what they said at the Intero Centre. I would contact the DA section directly. I was awarded DA whilst on a CE scheme. I choose to finish it early due to ill health. All that was required was a letter from the CE scheme advising finish Date & my DA payment was activated.

Worth pointing out however you may need to reapply for any additional allowances you had, Fuel /Living alone as these are seperate allowances to DA.

My advice is based on the Assumption you moved directly from DA to a CE scheme with no breaks.

    Thank you.

Yes I spoke to DA earlier today.

I emailed my Ce administrator asking for a letter for Disability.

I am waiting for a reply

Obviously I am asking for her to write the letter in advance of when i am actually no longer employed by them.

Can you tell me how long after you sent in the letter, were you able to receive DA payment?

Yes, I did go from disability straight onto a ce scheme.

I am also hoping to go back on it again. I very much enjoy working there.

Thank you for advice on other allowances.

I recieved my first DA payment the week after my last CE wage.

CE schemes are employment & same rules regarding Notice & resignation apply. They may require a letter of resignation before giving you a letter regarding end date on the scheme.

Just as an aside I created a Thread entitled DA 104 Form Restoration of Disability Allowance, if this is mentioned, This Form actually doesn't exist. Just a simple letter from the CE scheme stating the date your employment ends.
