Got called for an online interview today, based in Galway. I'm already an EO in public sector so hopefully will be ok. Handy enough it's online , have heard a lot of the work is remote too but that's after passing exams

For those of you that have done your interviews, how soon after you sent the email confirming your attendance for interview, did it take to receive the Teams invite etc?

I got it the same day, itself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 Willow25

It was 5-6 days for me (that included a weekend). I remember it was getting close to the interview day so I was about to email to see if my email has been received.

Does anyone know if this panel will be similar to the general EO where outside of the cities there is very little opportunity? It's very disheartening doing this year on year and nobody in your county gets a position.

Did the interview today, stuck to the competencies mainly with a bit of extra digging on them.

Heads up guys, I was asked today about the technical training in the information booklet, what do I know about it. Rest of the interview was 99% about competencies and why do I want this position.

Hi , I was hired as EO from the 2021 external TAC panel, I have completed all the training also incase any of you have any queries

hi all, so I got an invite for interview next week (applied for mayo) Excited but also so so nervous I hate interviews 😭 can anyone tell me what to expect? I understand I’ve to know my competencies. But any other questions they have asked outside of that?
the email tells me the names of the people who will be conducting the interview

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 Willow25

Oh thank you! Can I ask what type training you were given and how long it takes? Did you do any outside accredited courses with the Irish Tax Institute or any other providers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 Willow25

Best of luck. Go back through this thread as there are a few posts that mention what type of questions different people have been asked. It's mostly competency based, so know your application well and have examples ready for each competency. ☺️

@Willow25 ITI run 4 semesters for four modules of taxation. Each module consists of 5/6 days training in Revenue Training Bramch, then another 4 days with ITI , and pass mark for these exams is 50%. The training is 65% via teams and 35% in a classroom... on completion of these 4 exams you get an ITI level 6 certificate.

Following this I had to do a diploma in taxation through UL, but this diploma is now done away with. It's called modular training now, similar level of training but done internally and no qualification

@Shazzy1993 To score high I'd recommend you incorporate different points from the code of practice, its on Google. Keep your examples short and specific, such simple been you worked in a shop and at end of the day you balanced the cash and reconciled it to the end of day report

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 Kellyf17

For anyone who already interviewed, were the questions they asked on the competencies all based on the statements in your application? Like did they ask specifically about those statements or was it more like tell me about a time when …. and leave it open to any other examples you might have wanted to use instead?

If you don't mind me asking - how're you finding it in Revenue, what unit are you in and how has the WFH been? Is the work stressful/heavy going at times, on site for audits etc? I'm hoping to change for a better balance, wfh and career development (also public sector) but never know where you'll end up! 😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 cocopoco

@koifish 1st month i was in 5 days. Since then it's 3 WFH, flexi also allowed from home. I'm in business division, I do alot of site visits, pre-arranged with zero issues. My bestie in the same room does zero visits. Depending on what HEO you get. Everyone is really nice to get on with. But like every job it's important to change every few years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 lollipops89

@cocopoco is there many working in TAC in regional offices? And are the on-site audits relatively close to your office? Thanks so much!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭mopsy06

Hi @cocopoco the 4 modules with the ITI, is that the Tax Technician course? I have this completed as I'm in Revenue so I'm hoping this gives me an added advantage. Not so sure I excelled in the interview I did a few weeks ago though. It's my third time interviewing for TAC. No matter how prepared I am, my mind goes blank.

What kind of question were you asked about the technical training? Just a general "what do you know about it?"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13 ccmarch

Yes, that they mentioned technical training in the candidate info booklet, what can I tell them about it/how is it done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 cocopoco

@mopsy06 if you have the 4 modules covered with ITI (tax technician) then surely you've a dead cert chance of getting hired. Are you a CO ? I hope you spoke about it in your interview. Well done
