Thanks. Is there such a thing as going in to a physical shop like the post office for example and getting one on the spot? Or do they have to be ordered online and wait for it to be posted out?

thanks , so 75 euro for a sim for the year and this allows phone calls and browsing in Ireland and Europe? seems very good.

Are there any other monthly fees or top ups that have to be done to keep it going?

What happens after the year is up?

Sorry for the basic questions, I have not bought a SIM in about 20 years as I get my phone from work

Dunno. It is the cheapest plan, not necessarily the best. After a year, reverts to topping-up €9 every 30 days. Ask them

That I don't know, call a post office and ask? If the sim is for a child make sure you have enough data allowance. A 10 GB plan won't last long if they watch a lot of videos or play games.

thanks, this is for a very basic setup - its a watch where you install a SIM card, to allow me have contact with a child, so don't think I need large data scenario

What's the consensus on the best sim only deal available at the moment. Will €15 a month get me 5G, high data cap, decent coverage, decent speeds and hassle free EU roaming?

Check the link in post #3 above and look at where you will be mostly using it and check the nearest masts to see how coverage will be . https://siteviewer.comreg.ie/#explore

Thanks yeah I did have a look on that site, but was also hoping to get some personal opinions on whether some of them are just terrible customer service or hassle roaming etc. One of my kids is on Tesco and I wasnt blown away by Tesco's roaming service when away previously

Gomo or 48 or clear. All good (48s roaming can be iffy), each works off a different network so depends which one suits your location better.

I'd suggest either Clear or GoMo. Clear running on Vodafone for 12.99 a month or GoMo 14.99 a month. Both have unlimited calls texts and data in Ireland and include roaming in Europe UK with 19GB of roaming data. I would like to see better roaming options for Non EU destinations such as an add on for US roaming or something with the MVNOs but that seems to be the same with all them all really. I was in Middle East recently and used an esim for data roaming for the first time and it was extremely simple to set up for minimal cost.

You mention terrible customer service- just note that these don't have stores and support is online only. Sky have a call centre for support but the support is dire. I notice people on here still reporting patchy roaming on 48 even in NI or UK so I personally wouldn't even consider them anymore.

If you’re an Eir customer (broadband) you can add a sim for €12.45 pm. Unlimited etc.

If you’re with Virgin …you can get one for €15 pm I think

Virgin do a €5 bill pay for 6 months from time to time.

Been happy with gomo and 48. Needed to tweak apn setting for roaming on 48 initially. but last few trips its been fine across Europe and UK. Response to support has been good.

We've one SIM on an Post mobile and it works well for that person. They seem to get coverage when the rest of us don't. I had terrible speeds when I was on it. Support meh.

Tried out Lyca there for a while. I'd avoid it at all costs even though it is indeed the cheapest of the lot.

Had massive problems getting One time password codes via SMS from various websites. Even couldn't port out because of this issue for a while. Avoid.

My contract with Three was up today. €37 per month. I decided to stay and got it for €15 a month which I'm happy with.

I know that will go up by €2 next April.

Are there any genuine prepay plans now only for credit? Not a per-month deal but rather a "buy 20 quid credit, get reasonable call rates, and keep going until that credit runs out" situation.

I want to have a number which I can set to forward to my personal mobile. I don't think it will be accessed very often.

I used to have a SkypeIn landline number years ago but Skype is gone now.
