The Emerging Preferred Route (EPR) for the highly anticipated Luas Cork project was unveiled today at Cork City Hall by Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD, marking a major milestone in the development of Cork's future public transport network.

100% events centre. Don't think it's worth getting excited about just yet. Maybe around 2050 we can start dreaming.

FWIW, I think it's bad form it goes south side to south side. Think it should be north/south.

Where would it go on the northside? There is only one road wide enough and flat enough connecting the city centre to the northside - the N20. Everything else is way too narrow, too steep, and too much suburban sprawl. I do think they should eventually add a line from the City Centre to Blackpool via the N20, but when you put proper thought into it, you can see why there are no current plans for a northside route

Short term nature of Irish politicians means they see more value in the announcement than delivery.

This won't happen for 30 years.

Where exactly will this doubling of the population come from in 15 years??

There's nowhere on the Northside for it to go really except Blackpool which is planned to get a station as part of the suburban rail network anyway. Most of the major trip generators in Cork are on the Southside like it or not e.g. CUH, UCC, MTU, city centre, PUC.

Decent enough routing. Build it. It'll be a huge success.

Realistically it is the only routing for a "first" Luas. You've got to connect Kent Station with Patrick Street, that simply needs to happen. Linking the colleges to it is just required too.

Second Luas (cos we will want another one if this gets built), Blarney - Blackpool - Kent - Black Ash - Airport - Carrigaline

The majority of people don't understand what "first consultation" means. This is the route if you ask around the general public.

It has been instant bad publicity to give that publican a chance to go on the national papers and give the NIMBY's a free hit.

Any planned line will, inevitably, end up with the destruction of people's properties. I wonder how many private properties are impacted by this proposal. Does this publican think every property owner should have been contacted at this early stage. ? Or just him? He's some dose!

The Echo are loving it anyway and will use every opportunity to get the NIMBYs all riled up. I'd be fearful that this will go the way of BusConnects. Consulted into oblivion, with local political interference also, to the point that it's been put on the very long finger. Some northside politicians are already looking for the Luas to go out to Blackpool.

The whole project is gonna be full of "doses". Don't give a prominent one like a publican any excuse.

So far this is the only place being talked about for demolition so I wouldn't be that hard.
