They previously gave out medicine that caused severe constipation in my mother and she stopped it. It was persscribed again and now it's done damage. Why was it given out a second there was other options. Less serve. We took their word as gospel.

You likely need a medical opinion from a consultant, not another GP opinion. Even then a GP only has what they have been told by the patient as reference. We looked into similar for the hospital care of my mother in law and had a specialist nurse paid to read the medical records and instruct us. Long and short of it, it needed a higher medical opinion to proceed further.

They back each other up. One doctor just patronised her pain. The nurse did nothing. They should resign when they go that way.

You can sue any professional for professional negligence, including GP's. It is expensive and difficult to do. You need a report from an expert stating that no GP in the same position should have done what the GP did and that damage has resulted from the GP's negligence. It would costs several thousand euro for such a report, if you can get one. Most such reports have to be sourced from the UK as Irish doctors are connected in some way or another.
