Yesterday at 10 PM out of the blue the alarm went off out of nowhere and the family was traumatised by the noise. It was the inside bell that went off.

Error code 15 Fault Battery Telecoms ( I no longer have a landline so that makes sense)

The alarm has not been armed for at least 6 years as it was unreliable with lots of false alarms. Around that time there was a battery fault and I got the original installer to replace the battery in order for it to not go off as there was a battery fault at the time setting it off at random times.

I now want it to be completely powered down so no alarm will ever go off again.

As I understand from an old post (https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2057104306/astec-alarm-going-off-even-when-unset - great instructions btw) I need to remove the fuse from the unit, then remove the connections to the battery.

Am I correct in saying the fuse mentioned is what I circled in red ?

    Alarm box 1.jpg

I also have a fuse in my main fuseboard that controls the alarm and some lights. I will switch that off first I guess, but once I complete the steps in the old post, I can switch that fuse (on main fuseboard) back on I presume ?

I take it there is also a battery in the bell box outside, how can I switch that off ? It is easily accessible if needs to be.

Once I remove the fuse in the unit and remove the leads to the battery and disable the battery outside- I take it there is no further chance of the alarm going off ? Or is there anywhere another power source ?

    Thanks for any help !

Yes, there is a fuse in the holder you have circled above that will kill mains power to the alarm itself.

Inside the panel, once lid is removed, there is also a link for the battery which should be removed if battery is still working.

I don't think the battery in the unit was working, anyway I removed the fuse and the link for the battery. Outside bell went off for about 20 mins.

I switched the fuse in my mains fuseboard back on.

Seems to have done the trick. Is it safe to leave the alarm unit as it is, with the fuse removed, or should I get an electrician to disconnect the alarm altogether from my mains fuse board ?

Once you remove the fuse it will be fine as you basially just stopped the mains connection by removing the fuse in place.
