RTE player on LG

The RTE player has stopped working for us on both of our LG televisions. We only use it occasionally and noticed this about a month ago. It used to work ok if you could tolerate the ads.

There is a message that doesn't fit properly on the screen saying it only works with versions 3 or higher of WebOS. We are on WebOS 6.10.35.

I emailed RTE support and they suggested deleting the app and reinstalling. Didn't work.

Emailed them again and they asked for a screenshot of the WebOS version, which I sent.

The next email from them was anonymous that said I need to be running WebOS 3 or higher - had completely ignored my screenshot.

I wrote to them again but got no reply.

Anyone else having problems - or better still, a solution?

Working fine here on a LM6370, with webOS 4.5, software version 05.40.80, from 2021. Is the 6.10.35 your webOS or the software version. If you press the mute button 3 times in quick succession it should show both.

    It says software version 06.10.50

    and another menu says

    [LG] webOS TV TL510S

    webOS TV Version 3.9.3-63013 (dreadlocks2-dudhwa)

That last line , if you copy it and google it , you get lots of bug reports , lots of people having issues with that " (dreadlocks2-dudhwa) update. The same type of issues as yourself.

If you cannot update further , then you are hosed , as no one has reported a fix.

My LG (43UK6950PLB, 5 or 6 years old) is back working with RTE Player. Somewhere in the last few months the TV must have updated to Web OS4.0 (that "press mute 3 times" was a handy hint - thanks, decor58) and today I found RTE player app on the LG store, but ONLY after I set Location - LG Services Country to Ireland. That change didn't affect my tuned channels settings or even recording setups in any way - did have to tick various "I agree" boxes after the LG did a reboot.

Click System → General → Location

Broadcast Area: United Kingdom (so that Freesat works)

    Postode: Bt1 1aa (ie Belfast)

LG Services Country: Ireland (from a dropdown list) (RTE Player does not show up in the apps list if country is set to UK.)

I note this app, and Ch4 which updated during my messing, have a new interface with the QR code/scan to link the TV to your account.

No sign of any of the LG Channels working - maybe I'm not missing much?

Is it possible to have freesat and DTT channel on one list ?

    No, they are different EPGs

For example, 200 is used on both - RTÉ Radio 1 (DTT) / BBC News HD (Freesat)

Hi Mackersdublin, thanks for your reply, my Saorview channels are all in the 800 channels numbers, is there away of having them in normal numbers and freesat?

No, unless you can pick up Freeview (the UK's DTT service). This also comes with caveats, select Ireland as broadcast region and Saorview stations will be in order but the UK stations will be in no logical number order. Set the broadcast region to UK and UK stations will be in order but the Irish stations in the 800's. Depending on your LG TV you may be able to edit the channel list. If you can, I suggest going with the UK as the broadcast region as there are far less Irish Channels to move.

Hi done123, on newer LG TVs unfortunately not, when the TV is set to UK for Freesat. I could renumber the Saorview channels 1,2, 3 etc on my 2015 and 2019 LG models, but in the last few years, that facility isn't available. The quick access buttons are so handy on the LG TVs (Long press 1 for RTÉ One and Long press 2 for BBC One) and gives you very quick access to both EPGs

I also had a 2016 Samsung and the Saorview channels were in the 800s too and I just put them in the order they should be in and used Channel +/- to flick between the channels (816 RTÉ One followed by 860 RTÉ2 etc)

Thanks the quick access buttons have been a great help
