Air source heat pump - noise issues?

My neighbour is getting one of these installed and she's placing it at the back of our semi detached houses, on the boundary wall literally under my bed room window. I don't know why she's decided to place it there because the other side of her house faces into an empty field where there wouldn't be a disturbance from this. I'm a very light sleeper and I'm concerned the noise of this pump will keep me awake which won't help my already sky high blood pressure. For the record, she and I do not get along as she's incredibly nosey and she thinks she can comment on anything I do. I generally don't give a damn what she or anyone does but in this case, she's picked a spot for the pump where it'll cause the most nuisance. I sent her a text asking her not to place it there but she ignored it. Am I overthinking this in relation to the noise or should I be more direct in tackling this?

From my experience, I say you're right in thinking it will be noisy and would advise you to ask her to place it somewhere else, if possible, where it will not be a nuisance to you - this will be critical, as once it's done it will be difficult to undo! As an example, we have a 10kW heatpump outdoor unit installed on a wall two walls away from our bedroom and I can hear it from there when it comes on in the mornings to heat the water and underfloor heating: the sound bounces off a retaining wall about 6m away from it too. Standing beside it at full blast is very noisy indeed.

Our heatpump is only two years old, so it's of modern design. I've been fiddling around with the settings to have it come on as late as possible, to limited success. We have both underfloor and water heating and if both start at the same time it's at its worst. Not to mention we live in an A-rated home! If it's only used for underfloor heating, and the temperature is kept at a constant, it might not be bad, but it's the starting up to reach indoor temperature that is noisiest, e.g. starting to heat a cold house at 6 am.

Wishing you luck negotiating with your neighbour.
