CID, PWT and LIFO

Hi everyone. Hopefully the knowledgeable folks on here will be able to provide some guidance on the below.

My partner is currently teaching in a secondary school and has a full hours CID since 2021. Without wanting to give too much away location-wise, it's very likely that the student numbers in the school will drop in the next year or two. Since my partner got the CID, another new staff member has arrived on a PWT contract, also a teacher. My question is, if the numbers were to reduce and the school used the last in first out system, would my partner who got a CID in 2021 be gone before a PWT holder who started in 2023?

    Thanks

To my knowledge there are no PWT contracts any, ore. Was the new teacher redeployed by any chance - they may have a PWT contract from years ago.

To answer your question, the staff member with the least amount of service will be redeployed first in case of reduced numbers.

Thanks a million for the reply. I thought the same about the PWTs, what you've suggested there is likely the case I'm guessing.

I take it the contract type (PWT vs CID) is irrelevant when it comes to years of service i.e. a CID with 20 years total is kept ahead of a PWT with 19 etc.

I think it depends on service in the school and school need than overall experience.

You say this is a post primary school. Then it isn't necessarily last in first out. School needs take priority, and it would be based on the subjects the school needs.

Yes, if your wife is the only physics teacher for example, and there are 6 English teachers and that is where the surplus is, then it could be one of them that gets redeployed. Also if there are teachers in the school who are not on a CID, which is likely, they would be the first to go assuming they weren't teaching a subject that no one else could cover.
