First of all what did you normally do for hot water before solar? Did it run out like it does now?

Hate to say it, but generally it's more cost effective to export the excess power and use your traditional means of heating hot water (oil, gas)

Immersions usually don't heat the whole tank, and often are either halfway up the tank or if in the top it only really goes half way.

    Hi

We'd have used the gas/ immersion... kind of wpuod have stayed hot longer a bit i think…

Yes ur right about the immersion.

Just trying to find the best way to have hot water longer had to boost ot there now for showers....

    Thank you

As Graeme said it's generally better value to export the electricity than divert it to hot water

If you want to ensure the water is hot in the evening then you could divert excess solar during the day and then use the gas boiler to boost it in the evening

There should be a thermostat in the tank or something which prevents the water getting overheated

I guess to answer your original question, you could look at getting a bigger tank if you've a lot of excess solar and feed in isn't an option for you

However a bigger tank would take more energy to heat up overall

I wouldn't jump into any decisions in the short term, if the tank held enough hot water before then it should still now

Now if you bought a jacuzzi in the meantime then you might be in trouble 😁

That's fantastic as them bloody things aren't cheap. And your right they wouldn't be at all they'd be expensive to heat for sure..

Right I think we'll go with what you've said divert and boost in the evening.

Your a star and a Massive thanks to ye much appreciated 👏
