I had a job getting the rudder pin out when I lifted my Beneteau First 26 last year. I know I'm leaving it late but I thought I should investigate before lifting back in.

As the photo shows, the gudgeons are not well aligned. The pin passes smoothly through the top two, but the picture shows how it arrives at the third. I know I could hammer it in, but this is a new pin I had fabricated because the old pin had grooves worn in it, and I think now I know why.

I'm looking for suggestions as to how I could realign them. My first thought is to take them off, carve away some material under the metal straps until they are aligned (albeit loosely), then use some kind of bedding compound (thickened epoxy?) to gap-fill while holding them in alignment. Any better ideas?
