UPS batteries

    I have three UPS units that I need to replace the batteries in. Two have been dead for a while and my main one for the 'server rack' died over Xmas. Unfortunately I had a power outage a week or so ago that worked my main server. While I get that fixed, it's focussed me on protecting the equipment better. Reactive rather than proactive, I know.

    They all take 12v batteries, but with different Amp Hours, so my question is, does the AH matter? Is it safe to put a say a 9AH in where a 7AH was previously?

    Yeah, you can mix and choose really. I have an APC SMART-UPS 1000 which shipped with two 7Ah batteries, and it now has two 12Ah batteries fitted instead. Got them here:

    You just need to ensure that the fuse is maintained at the same rating and that you can fit battery connector lugs if the originals don't fit, then it's pretty risk-free.
