Open eir Fibre upgrades

    I entered my eircode into the Openeir broadband checker and it said I was part of their 1.9 million FTTH due to be completed by the end of 2026. To be honest I'd never heard of this and just hit upon the site by accident. I was wondering if anyone has been part of this particular upgrade program (not the NBI) roll out. Have the upgrades come in parallel with the NBI roll out? I ask this as I am on FTTC at present and see the NBI are in the area. I am not a part of the NBI roll out as I have speeds over 30mb. Just thought there might be some link?

    Nothing to do with NBI. Eir are upgrading their own copper network to fibre in urban areas.

    The Eircom program is made up three parts (300k, IFN* 1.4M, and 200K) totalling 1.9M premises. Apart from the 300k, it's not easy to tell what premises are actually included in it.

    The "commercial' urban premises are unlikely to be completed before the end of 2028 and it looks like the Department will not scope the FTTC blackspots until all is finished. There are some indications on timelines here and here
