Based on trailer I wouldn't be sold but I absolutely adored Past Lives.

It's solid, very much aimed at an American audience, slightly trivialized a very serious situation but pulled it back, and the surgery jokes were misplaced, but everyone played their part well.

It's a chocolate and wine on the couch movie, in no way is a big screen required.

Awful rubbish. Couldn't stand that Dakota one and her awful condescending tone. Big fan of Past Lives but a no from me.

Saw this earlier and the only word I can use to describe it is "Flat". There is a serious pacing issue here, a lot of the scenes just fall flat, like theres no spark or zip. Anytime I thought it might be kicking into life the pace would just die a death again. Its a shame because I think theres some genuinely good ideas being explored, like the commodification of people, the petty squabbling over money, the desperation of some people to be in a relationship. And in the hands of a better director this actually couldve been a cracking film. As it is though, its not worth the bother of going to the cinema, its a flat and empty movie, most definitely not a comedy. Its quite bleak.

Dakota Johnson is a charisma vacuum, could not understand why John or Harry wanted Lucy

Saw this last night and I enjoyed it. It's not as strong or as impactful as Past Lives which I will watch again soon but I did think the film had pluses.

As Song's second outing I like how she's able to make movies about likeable characters. Both of her movies sort of involve love triangles and in both movies all people are grounded and decent which is not something you often see where it would be more normal for the protagonist to fall for an unlikeable person and leave the nice one out before eventually returning.

For me it's about finding real happiness and true love and how your life goals can actually based on emptiness and not of something of real substance.

That said this film had flaws, assault sub plot felt clunky and contrived. Office scenes with colleagues were ridiculous and full of annoying screaming and very US Valley Girl characters. Are dating agencies that big and well paid with high paying clients in this phone app age?

Also, pet peeve, scenes of people smoking, seemed out of sorts for these characters and I often wonder are tobacco companies funding these movies.

Anyhow I can see this movie is not for everyone but I like the adult themes and dialogue and Song excels in this. After a very strong opening movie with Past Lives, she does not reach those heights here, but in fairness maybe she never will again but she shows great ability and i look forward to her future work.
