Changing Bank Details Disability Allowance

So some will have heard about SEPA discrimination which is illegal under EU law.

I needed to change Bank accounts & using to mywelfare portal where it clearly says Revolut & N26 Accounts acceptable, I put in the Requests, One for DA, One for Household Benefit.

Two weeks later I get 2 letters, in relation to each request.

DA: Your request Declined as you can not have DA paid into a foreign account.

Household Benefit: This will be paid into your N6 Account starting April 2025.

On contacting the DA section they asked me 2 send in a N26 Statement showing my Irish address & will review their decision. I didn't mention another section had approved the use of my N26 Account.

I literally couldn't make this up. One section of the DSP accepting N26, Another Not.

N26 incidentally is Based in Germany & therefore within the EU & Covered under SEPA regulations & Agreements.

    Just thought I'd share this.

Very odd. I receive Invalidity pension into an N26 account and prior to that, it was illness benefit and also had Child Benefit and other benefits such as WFP paid into it in the past. Some folk really do love to try "Computer says no" at any presentation that involves a little extra work for them.

The most Bizzare situation I've ever come across, notwithstanding their own, My welfare portal clearly states both banks are acceptable, two different sections within one Department essentially contradicting each other.

It's ridiculous to say this but that is purely down to the officer processing your request, the one in HHB is clearly more in tune with online banks than the one in DA. They should have the information now scanned to your file though if they sent you a letter so it should be as simple as ringing them and asking them to review it. I don't work in DA or I'd PM you regarding it myself and sort it.

It's a training (or lack thereof) issue internally.

I know you have a full understanding of what has occured Necro & Honestly it's baffling. I certainly wouldn't have bothered had I known the stress this would cause.

The Two letters arrived Seperately & I was flabbergasted at one section approving my request & another declining it.

When submiting the Request only the IBAN & BIC supplied, the HB section where able to identify it was a N26 account.

I've now submitted a N26 statement with my Irish address & hopefully my request to the DA Section will be granted.

Thank you for all you expertise on illness benefit 😉
