Apparently good spells of sunshine today. I must be on a different island as cloudy all day here. Since weather broke last Friday about a handful of hours of sun and 53mm rain

Also shows how high-level stats can show a very different picture to the actual lived experience.

I remember arguments on here last summer where from memory I think May and into the first half of the summer was warmer/drier than average with ok levels of sunshine, but in reality there were loads of grey windy days with drizzle, and most sunshine in the early morning or late evening. So most days were unpleasant even if technically better than average

Nice day today with plenty of sun. Bit of breeze but it also feels muggy/heavy.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Broke my May record temperature today at 24.6C a short while ago. It beat out May 25th 2017 @ 24.4 into second place. It's lovely out!

A NASA satellite image of Ireland, taken 700 km above Earth’s surface shortly before midday today, shows cloud formations that take on the appearance of tyre tracks.

The distinctive cloud pattern is the result of wave clouds, or altostratus undulatus, which form a wavy appearance due to wind shear.

Wow 26c in Kilkenny. We had a huge downpour around 11 or so (SW Laois) and it was generally pretty cloudy, definitely not a 26c kind of day. The heat doesn't usually bother me, but after an hour of cutting the grass late afternoon I had enough!

A warmer day in Dublin than anything the fine spell brought us (minus April 30th) now that we've lost the easterly wind. Felt very balmy and unlike yesterday didn't have the awful rain.

a lovely warm day today in Meath after a not so great morning with showers around but got to 21C in the afternoon with great drying conditions which gave me a narrow window to get the garden finally cut after a week of rain.

Quite a noticable extra orange hue to sunrise this morning with Canadian wildfire smoke in the atmosphere.

@sryanbruen how are the monthly sunshine totals looking?, surely some stations must have broken their records this month or come close? You posted an image from a website before showing them but haven't been able to find myself, thanks

Hi All, Has anyone any good links for forecasts for Portugal please?

Belmullet on its second sunniest month on record with 287.5 hrs of sun as of the 30th. Only beaten by May 1975 (289.6 hrs) which was the national May record before 2020… record will likely go after today. This is the sunniest station in the country this month.

Cork Airport 285.4 hrs to the 30th - absolutely smashing its previous sunniest month on record, July 2013 (264.5 hrs).

Shannon Airport 284.2 hrs to the 30th - also absolutely smashed its previous sunniest month on record, June 1957 (261.2 hrs).

Valentia Observatory 263.0 hrs to the 30th - its 4th sunniest month on record and sunniest month since May 1961 (277.9 hrs).

Malin Head 280.5 hrs to the 30th - 4th sunniest month on record and sunniest month since June 2009, it only needs 0.4 hrs today to beat June 2009 and then it'll be the sunniest month there since May 1975 (287.5 hrs) which is its record. One day of missing data (26th).

Johnstown Castle 250.4 hrs to the 30th but with 4 days of missing data, 2 of which would have been very sunny with maximum possible sunshine.

Casement Aerodrome 274.5 hrs to the 30th, second sunniest month on record beaten by May 2020 (294.8 hrs).

Dublin Airport 278.5 hrs to the 30th, 4th sunniest month on record and sunniest month since May 2020 (295.0 hrs). Record is July 1955 with 305.9 hrs.

Can see all that Canadian wildfire smoke clearly on satellite this morning being dragged up towards the south coast.

Monday/Tuesday storm in NW looks a tad stronger on GFS. 110kph possible. Definite shock to the system. I take it wev had much stronger storms than this in Ireland before but nonetheless unusual. Fridays storm has gone from charts for now.

Heavy rain on and off this past couple of hours.

disappointing to see a bank holiday weekend so typically Irish. Grey windy 17 degrees. May was great up until the last week but I’m starting to get the yips about June now. Height of summer and we could be looking at the usual Atlantic dominated wind greyness and unremarkable temps.

any predictions for weekend of 13th June - 15th June? Will the rainy spells dry off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,936 ✭✭✭beggars_bush

    Serious heat in that sun

Much better day here than predicted yesterday, north midlands

Got a lovely walk in the this morning before the heavy showers hit in Bohernabreena Reservoir!

Water levels very low up there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,970 ✭✭✭✭sryanbruen

Long range keeps teasing of high pressure returning and backtracking. It would not surprise me at all if we just kept mixed conditions and an Atlantic flow. June looks far from a classic summer month at the moment.
