Anyone listening to this? Just saw a poster on a bus. It's about the poker player who went missing.

    Yes enjoying this so far.

No sign yet of the final episode which should be going up today, usually it's in or around first thing in the morning.

The final episode was in my podcast feed this morning. I listened to the whole thing earlier. I notice RTE haven't made it available on their website yet. Is that where you were listening to it?

Yes, I've been listening over the past week. I'm not sure it warranted seven episodes but it's worth a listen all the same.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find RTE Doc on 1 podcasts very padded and drawn out. Maybe this one is a bit more focused. I'll have a listen soon.

I agree - 7 episodes, it could have been condensed into 3-4 maybe

But I think the reason for so many, was that they were hoping some of the contents would spur people on to think about it and remember something they say or heard maybe. I know in the last episode that they mentioned examples of people informing them of things that they have heard since the podcast was broadcast, so maybe there is something big in the background.

To RTÉ's credit they contacted and interviewed people that nobody else did (including the Gardai)

Enjoying it but one thing is bugging me

Why are they not looking at the possibility his body was burned/cremated and ashes desponsed off ?

Never thought of that. I suppose that could be a thing with a lot of missing persons really 🤔.

It's not easy to dispose of a body in that way.

How so ? Chop up put in acid etc

    Much easier than burying

That's not cremation, which is what was in the spoiler.

You could definitely get close enough to it

Some odd enough 'tipp offs' in the last episode. Me thinks some are to get the attention

Whole thing is very odd and no doubt wouldn't be as big if he wasn't attending the 'international poker festival'

Imo (sorry if I cause any offensive) I think Jon was either 'killed accidentally and body dumped' or 'he committed suicide and body is in the deep sea'. He lost a lot of money that night

I do feel for his family/friends

Good podcast, fascinating story. The Irish narrator was beginning to irk, he speaks so slowly and deliberately, every small thing delivered with gravity, I reckon you could listen at 1.25x and save yourself an hour over the series.

One thing that didn't work for me was the certainty from Liam that both anonymous letters mentioned episode 5 or 6 came from the same person.

The rational: because they were sent in on the same date - not now the same date in the same same year- just the same date, 1 year apart

The message in each was similar, but nothing else matched, i.e handwriting, or who it was sent to were different. How many other notes were given to others in 5 years, etc, would it be productive to plot these by date of delivery and then link items on the basis of them being sent exactly one year apart?.

I would say that it's as much a chance of it being pure coincidence, I am not sure you can de as definitive as DI Liam that the same person sends in anonymous tips on an annual anniversary.

Mt only rationale is that there is more soid proof Liam can't reveal and the Gardai asked the podcast to say they think it's the same person as some kind of signal/ appeal for the person to come forward again.
