I’m still listening via the BBC Sounds app on my phone streamed to a Bluetooth speaker. And, on my Denon streaming hifi via the HEOS app.

My go to stations are 3 and 4. Thankfully, 4 has been spared, but I’ll miss 3.

    D.

True - only due to lack of knowledge around alternative solutions which may actually work. Thanks for suggesting solutions. I had to look up are VPNs legal 😅 (they are) so if that is an option which is the best one to work with BBC do you think?

Also - I listen to 6music all day through the Sounds website on my work computer - would there be a workaround for this?

I had to google '28.2e' having never heard of it - but I don't have a satellite dish at home.

For now BBC Sounds is still working on all platforms for me, sorry for those who have already lost reception and if anyone can post ways they've successfully gotten back access after being kicked out, that would be really helpful

The loss of BBC Sounds feels like MY LIFE IS OVER 😭

One thing for sure - I won't be tuning in to 2FM. 😡

It would be great if bbc could licence out their programmes to other international stations and access through there. The same way sports and tv shows are licensed out.

Thats what turned me to BBC in the first place. Irish main radio station are brutally kack. I dont know some of the local stations may be alrihgt.

But between the never ending fake haha talk the corny jokes the fabric softener topics and the never ending ads plus the sh1t music they have just the worst of everything IMO.

have you a radio app or smart speaker for other non-Irish stations ? BBC Radio is still available on tune-in and radio.net

there are other FM radio stations in Ireland apart from 2FM you know !!

I use Nord VPN myself. Recently renewed my sub, €90 for 2 years. Hasn't failed (yet) in accessing the iPlayer or their sports output via BBC Sounds which is normally UK only.

A work computer could be trickier. Whoever runs your I.T. department might frown on you installing a VPN on your machine. Does it have an audio in port? If so maybe connect your phone (with a VPN on it) to it and it may work.

28.2E is where all the Sky TV dishes point to. BBC TV & the BBC national radio stations are available free to air from there too.

I'm on Revolut Premium, €90 a year or something, and I got two years Nord VPN as part of it

we lost bbc radio 3 via the HEOS app today. BBC Sounds still working, but only a matter of time. I’d happily pay for it. TV is garbage. Radio much better.

Such a shame. I noticed this a few weeks ago and it’s gradually coming into operation. I’ll miss Paul Gambaccini and Bob Harris. Although the Sounds of the Seventies programme was a lot better when Johnnie Walker was alive.

Just checked and the BBC Radio stations are still available on the TuneIn app, no VPN needed.

Has it come into force yet ? I can still listen to the stations on the app.

At this stage they are just popping up messages, but I don't think they've turned anything off yet, well except the removal of Sounds from some app stores.

Thanks for suggestions. Thankfully I'm still accessing BBC Sounds on all my devices both at home and at work, so don't need alternatives yet… but feeling better about it all now knowing there are workarounds if and when needed!

TuneIn showing “because I listen to bbc6” suggestion for other stations. May need to delve in to these.

2xm is showing up as one of them, I thought this was going off the air also? Would be amazing if they made a go at getting 2xm to be a decent alternative station. Money makes the world go round it seems…

5 live still works on tunein for me (without VPN) - not to say it will keep working but its always worked up to now bar some live events.

If you have a enigma 2 linux based satellite receiver running openvix or similar then you can do this easily enough.

This is latest update from BBC site...

These changes only impact BBC platforms, as BBC content will remain available on the same third-party platforms as before outside the UK.

You could install Nord VPN on your phone and stream BBC Sounds through the computer's speakers. If your phone doesn't have a headphone jack, an adapter like this can solve that. I've linked to one that also charges the phone, so your battery won't run down. Alternatively, the phone and a bluetooth speaker would also do the trick.

You could ask your IT department to install Nord VPN but if they're anything like mine, they'd have a conniption.

Latest announcement sounds like 3rd party apps/sources may continue to work? Say the likes of tunein?

I trialled NordVPN a few weeks ago for the week, and didn't have a great time with BBC Sounds when it was on. Constantly stopping.

I would recommend ProtonVPN. Never had a problem with anything. Also its Swiss.

It's a Humax Foxsat with the modified firmware, but live streaming isn't a goer.

I used to be able to hit record and then chase play but that stopped working a couple of versions of Kodi ago (no s/w changes at the Humax end in years). Maybe VLC or some other client could do it but I haven't looked into that yet.

BBC Radio 4 was not available through Apple Music for me earlier this week. I believe Apple Music source their BBC Radio feeds from TuneIn. Radio 4 and R6 etc, are available to me today. This could be promising news for international listeners using third party platforms (as suggested in the latest update from the BBC).

Ye same here tunein is working but so is BBC sounds app, too early to tell. But last announcement sounds a bit better.

I wonder if listening via TuneIn etc do they bear the costs of streaming or are they just doing it via BBC links - if the former, then presumably the BBC are OK with it and it doesn't cost them anything.

For music etc. the BBC would still have to have a global licence instead of a UK-only one though, so I wonder how long 6 Music will last

Notts County v Crewe in League Two on BBC Radio Nottingham via Sounds was geoblocked earlier but various NI League commentaries on BBC Ulster currently are not.

The BBC are going to come under much opposition from expatriate Brits who will suddenly find themselves cut off from Lisa Tarbuck on Saturday evenings, it seems to me a lot of requests come in from retired people on the continent.
