How does renting a Taxi Plate work in Ireland?

Hi everyone, I'm considering renting a taxi plate and using my own vehicle as standard taxi in Dublin but I want to understand the full process and costs involved in renting the plate. It seems to be a cheaper option then renting a cab but how does the plate rental process work? I understand, that I need to sign some formal lease agreement with the plate owner but in terms of ownership and legal aspects, will the plate remain in the owner’s name, or can it be transferred to my name while I rent it? Will I be able to deduct the plate rental cost and vehicle purchase from my income for tax purposes? Then, if I decide to stop renting, what is the process of returning the plate? Is there a notice period or any penalties for ending the agreement early? And finally, how much does it cost to rent one annually?

I’d appreciate insights and advice from those with experience in this area. Thank you.

Can you rent just a plate now? I thought you rented the actual taxi.

Does it mean I will not be able to deduct the plate rental cost and vehicle purchase from my income for tax purposes?
