Looking for an electronic engineer

Hi, I was wondering if there are any electronic engineers that would take on a little project or a business that would do this type of work that anyone could recommend?

I have a heat ventilation system that has two fan motors, the board that controls the fans no longer works and I am hoping to just control the fans via something more simple. This is the motor in question.

Written on the motor is 310v 50Hz CI.B

Here is the board it causes the fuse to blow when it’s plugged in. I butchered this board I thought removing the chip would stop it blowing the fuse and maybe the fans would still run. I have another one of these boards that hasn’t been touched, it’s not the first time this has happened. Hence looking for something simpler, just want the fans to turn, I’m not bothered about all the other sensors etc.

310v… that appears to be a DC fan with a few H-bridges for forward-reverse control. I suspect that's not very common or off the shelf.

LV DC with RPM reference (PWM) and RPM feedback on the data cable.

Tricky one to engineer as it will need a suitable controller. Somebody might know of one.

thank you for your response, I have two of the vortices prometeo hr400 units. That board went on the other one about 10 years ago, I had to buy new sensors and new remotes at the the time it cost around the 800 euro mark.

I don’t know if that board is available anymore.

I did have one motor fail that was around the 300 euro mark just for the part.

Even if I could get other motors that would fit. Just something that would spin the fans at the right speed.

From poking around I'm seeing that 310v DC is the voltage used on ceiling fans, plus they appear to use similar controllers with PWM and feedback. It might be an option to use two ceiling fan controllers to do what's required.

this is the actual board, I assume it’s plus vat. Seems like my options are

1. Find another application that uses the same motors and take the parts I need.
   2. Buy the original board and hope it will work with the existing hardware.
   3. Find someone who could make up a board to control the fans, maybe make something out of the two old boards.
   4. Find different motors that could be made to fit and maybe easier to control.

I would avoid any solution which is custom in nature as you'll likely find yourself in a worse situation if problems arise down the line. Best long-term option might be to just replace with a simpler and cheaper system.

Lots of discussion on this type of DC motor here. It appears to have an onboard fan control circuit within the housing which runs off 15v DC and takes an input of around 6.5v DC as the speed control, and has a feedback RPM coming out. Then fan motor itself then takes 310v DC. What the white wire is for in the three pin connector, I do not know, you'd need a pinout or diagram to work that part out.

310v DC is generated from our 230v AC rectified, so it's not that unusual, but is dangerous to be playing with.

At a guess and looking from the chip you removed, is the issue is a mosfet going short? It is possible that its worth repairing each time it fails, depending on how often this happens? If the problem is just a few mosfets failing and you figure out which ones, it would be a relatively straight forward fix.

The fact that you do have one good and one bad board, may make it much easier for someone to repair. In your picutre of the bad board, is the only thing you have removed that one chip?

Just to add, if it does happen to be that the mosfets are failing short, maybe adding a few little heatsinks to them might help prolong until next failure? Something like this?

To test the existing board that has failed (if you haven't already), if you have a multimeter, put it into ohms mode, and see what the resistance is between the three legs on all mosfets on the board.

without the chip it’s still blowing the fuse, it has burned a hole down through the board I’ll try to get a better picture. So it’s like the board has some internal fault if that’s possible.

See hole in the corner of the board. Even with the chip removed it blows the fuse with a loud bang.

Thanks for this I’m going to take a close look. Im better at mechanical tasks than these electronics so I’d still like to pay some one to work on it and see what might be possible if I could find somebody that enjoys a challenge.
