So I am about to buy a car, decided to do a motorcheck on it.

In a table it prints out the mileage history

    20/11/2024 159,000

    04/12/2024 155,000

    22/01/2025 160,000

Overall the pages goes on to state

We have searched our odometer records for the vehicle and found no discrepancies with the existing odometer readings.

    What do you guys think

Where does it source the figures from, would the car have been to a dealer to get the data for those 3 months fed in to the system? I'd be thinking some input error on the December reading rather than anyone trying to financially benefit, the figures are just too low to be worthwhile doing.

How does the service history look up to that mileage, is that all adding up? Should also have records on the NCT disc and cert showing what it was at each test.

Okay, thanks for that. I have mailed motorcheck to ask them to explain the figures.

The seller sent me a snap of the NCT and that has consistent mileage increases on it.

Maybe it's motorcheck as NCT adds up ?

Yeah, most likely an input error by Motorcheck. Likely should have been 153k and hit 9 instead of 3.

I'd say the middle one might be incorrect (159500?), otherwise it's doing serious mileage the last few months compared to its previous history

    That's the first one. They're 159,500 - 155,000 and 160,000.

I reckon the first one should be 153k which would be much more in line.

    I think it might be

    20/11/2024 159,000

    04/12/2024 155,000 159500

    22/01/2025 160,000

OP was looking in the bangernomics thread so I'm assuming it's a fairly old car

Don't understand how that kind of input mistake is made. Much easier to hit 9 on a keypad instead of 3 - some keypads have 3 on the top row, so it's an easy mistake to make.

500kms in two weeks for a car that subsequently did 5k in 6 weeks including Christmas seems off.

Def an error. They hardy clocked it for 4,000km, and then stuck 6k on it in a month over Christmas.
7k would be a bit in months, so it's probably the middle one. But you'd know better from the age/use of the car.

That descepency is fairly inconsequential IMO.

I'd be more interested to see the source of the mileage data getting officially recorded every month, presumably trade related which is fine but if it was multiple NCT tests it would raise a few questions.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
