Convert Socket

I have absolutely no clue and don't want to look like a fool asking an electrician if this can't be done. I have a double socket on the wall and beside it a Sky Satellite feed socket. Getting rid of sky and won't need the dish anymore or the wires. Is it possible to get that socket converted to regular power socket or make the 2 way a 3way if that makes sense.

You can't convert the sky cables to a socket.

But you can get the sky cables moved out of the way and another socket can be added there, which would be looped from the one beside it.

So just ask the electrician to remove the sky cables and add a new socket in its place.

You could keep the sky cables accessible for future but I think the days of TV via satellite dish is gone. It's all over WiFi nowadays

There is not even the need to do that. You can just get a 3 plug socket and change the 2 gang one for a 3 gang one. No need for extra cables or box's.

It just goes on over the regular 2 gang box and vola you have a 3 gang socket or you can even double it and go for a 4 gang socket.

The one you linked needs a 3 gang back box. Look at the holes for the 3.5 screws

How does the faceplate screw into the wall if your not changing the back box?

Is there a set dimension between the 2 sockets?

I had assumed you meant this, but this requires to be planned ahead of time to use with your faceplate. Not retrofit.

They rely on pre planning the use where as existing set ups will all be different dimensions between back boxes

So some knock out and loop taken from the original double socket will be required.

Do you have a requirement for another socket, or just have a hang-up about a now disused TV socket being there? There might be some other use for it in the future?

A bit overkill getting an electrician out just to do this (if you cannot do it satisfactorily yourself) , when an adaptor would do fine for low power (not heaters etc) appliances. High power appliances like heaters/kettles etc should be on their own socket.

Thanks, So that's just a twin to triple convertor. You'd be relying on it to cover your existing set up rather tan connect in.

Yes exactly just take the double off and put the triple on simples. Here is another one,

Those converters never look great and wouldn't cover the plaster knockout from the sky cables anyway.

You need to completely remove the sky socket and repair the plasterwork and then use a triple converter box
