When watching videos on You Tube, I have noticed that ads appear more frequently, so I timed them.

After 7 minutes, one videos had 4 short ads.

    Has this become the norm?

Ive noticed a huge increase in ads recently. It's really irritating. Not least due to the ads I'm seeing. Royal Clash, a game I have zero interest in playing, Free now which I already have installed and use, and dominoes which I use from time to time as a treat and an ad for which is not going to sway me.

Late last night, the rate of ads seemed to have returned to normal level

Ye it's been like that for well over a year now. It became nearly unwatchable.

I upgraded to YouTube premium using my VPN through Peru and having no ads alone is more than worth the €5 a month I pay. I couldn't imagine going back.

I'm in Poland, €11 a month for a family plan. I couldn't get Peru working.

I think cheap premium is worth it, especially if you can replace Spotify with Youtube Music.

I for one would like to sincerely thank Youtube for curing my excessive Youtube usage. The number of ads has become borderline unbearable (obviously because they want you to pay them some sweet sweet dollar to stop the ads).

However I've found a much better solution: stop watching videos and put down the phone altogether. Then go for a walk, read a book, do some cooking, talk to some family and/or friends (if they're not on their phones of course 😂) etc, much happier 👍

Now, I'm off to put down the phone and cook some heart clogging mash, peas and lemon sole 🤤

Use ‘Brave’ as your main browser. Strips out ads easily. Same for the ad-supported versions of many other video streaming services.

Another trick for getting around most paywall news websites is to just disable JavaScript. This might break some functionality in general but is easy to switch back on again
