Gun Service

Is there anyone in the Leinster area that offers inspection and cleaning service, have two guns I bought recently enough and would like someone that knows there way around it to break it down give it a clean and inspection.

Not confident enough my side to do this yet.

A few would do shotguns, fewer rifles, and even fewer pistols.

Not in Leinster but I'd recommend a trip down to Small Arms Services, or see will he be at any matches or ranges near you in the future where you could drop them off to him.
Very good service by all accounts, and does the lot so would be well capable of doing a shotgun and rifle.

Alternatively for the shotgun, don't know if he does rifles now, John Conroy in Hophall near Portlaoise would do a good job of it.
And there is Ballistech in Gorey who do gunsmithing of all sorts.
IIRC Cilldara hunting also have a gunsmith they use.

All depends on where is convenient but from my experience you wouldn't go wrong with Small Arms Services.

Lads, be mindful of the following:

"On and after the commencement of this Act it shall not be lawful for any person to manufacture, sell, repair, test, or prove, or expose for sale, or have in his possession for sale, repair, test, or proof, by way of trade or business, any firearm or ammunition unless such person is registered in the register of firearms dealers.".


Notwithstanding the expertise of normal shooters here, anything done commercially with a firearm by an individual not being an RFD would fall afoul of the law.

That and there is no comeback if you did ask Bubba on the range to do a service and something went wrong. 😬

Please define "commercialy"?

By that is it ment for money or goods?

I was meaning that he can be shown how to service his own firearms. By ppl that have the same firearms.

And as you know there are plenty of YouTube videos on each and every firearm on how to strip, clean, and service them.

I'll take the Oxford definition on that:
"in a way that is concerned with buying, selling, and making a profit."

As in a lad at the range accepting payment(cash or kind) for an inspection and service of a firearm would be fall afoul of doing such commercially.

Obviously if someone at the range was showing him what to do there is no issue.

But the OP specfically mentioned someone providing a service, so a reminder of where the fine line is was warranted.
Rule 8 and all that.

So, to be clear, it's perfectly lawful to sell ammo and firearms on line in this forum every day if you are not an RFD ? To my mind these are definitely commercial transactions, in that goods are given in exchange for payment.

However if a lad did get 10 or 20 squid for checking out and cleaning a gun then that's apparently unlawful if they are not an RFD ?

What am I missing ? Either all of these scenarios are lawful or none of them are ?

The lads who are doing this in the forum are not doing it as a business.

If those lads were buying and selling firearms as a business without an RFD that would be an issue.

Same as a car dealer vs someone selling their old car on done deal. One is a business/commercial venture/what have you.

If someone was however offering a firearms inspection service that would be counted as a business, which would fall into RFD territory.

John conroy down outside portlaoise. He will do anything you need. Can be a nuisance to deal with but the work is good
