Keeping birds out of an open shed

I have an east facing open shed 9' high, 30' wide with an rsj in the middle.

I'm helping out a neighbour who wants to store household stuff in it for a few months after a recent fire,

Have any of ye managed to keep birds out of a shed?

The windbreakers by clonmel covers is the right job but €€'s

I've been meaning to do it last year as the bird sh1t has ruined the freezer & other things in the shed

Any suggestions

As a short term measure get your neighbour to cover all his furniture with plastic - a roll of light guage visqueen goes a long way.

Uncle of mine got clear plastic sheets ( heavier gauge than silage cover plastic ) and cut it into 2ft wide strips and hung them from top of door to just above ground. You could still walk into shed as they would part easily.

Think maybe had them attached on top to 3*2 timbers that could be swung back ( or lifted off? ) if you needed to get in shed with car etc. You could add small weight to bottom to keep them hanging straight?

I get a fine lorry curtain off a lad selling in bantry fair, its heavy 40 ft long, by approx 12 ft high. You can cut to size and put it sliding. You can use it after for covering anything it's heavy.

A lot of good suggestions, I like the clear strips idea...I had forgotten about them.

I came home today & he'd 2 12 ft gates hanging with mesh on them so we now have only half an opening to cover😁

Make your own gale breaker. Buy a roll of scaffolding net. It’s about €50 on screwfix. Get two ratchet straps one top one bottom. Roll out your net to fit and double it up. Cut and cable tie to the ratchet straps. The roll will do about 10 bays.

Tack / tie netting to the underside of the roof timbers, birds will avoid the netting and won't be able to perch on the roof timbers.
A lightweight net will move easier in the breeze and deter them more.

Just ordered a lightweight bird net today, I will be able to get it pinned under the eave shoot & tack to a 4x2 then on the ground

I'll stick a few eye hooks on the wall either side to keep it flush

I was suggesting to have the net horizontal under the roof inside the shed, like a net "ceiling"

It'll be hard to keep birds out at the front opening, once inside they'll just fly up into the roof space, hence the netting to deter them.

A bit of left over end of roll bale netting might work.
