How do I get a structural engineer just to knock down a wall?

Every structural engineer I look up has these big massive projects on their website and all I want to do is knock down a load bearing wall with chimney.

Are there no structural engineers for small residential projects?

I already have a builder to do the work.

There was the option of going with bigger constructions companies do the work and they would have their own engineer but their price was three times as much as my builder.

[€18,000 to knock down a 4 metre wall seems excessive.]

The cost isn't for removing the wall, it's for retaining the house.

Does your builder not have a structural engineer they're used to working with on stuff like this? If not I'd question why.

Howya. Having gone through wall removal of two load bearing walls 1 at the rear of the house with an existing extension between at 7m and the internal wall running into the larger beam at 4m 18k does sound high for one.

I don't have a engineer for you but the builder i uses literally just removes the wall. While he did a lot for me sorting trades/ plumbing/ insulation/ flooring his bread and butter is just going into houses and having the wall subcontracted to him. Honest guy I didn't pay any deposit to book. Gave him a guy and let him at it.

You could give him a call, send him photos and get a ball park price. He had my two walls out within a week and steal fitted!

Doesn't directly answer your question sorry! But it's an option if you want to PM me.

    PS what dublin based.

If that's all that it is, you don't need an engineer, just knock down the wall.
But as alluded to above, I suspect that's not all it is and you need to somebody to design the new load bearing structures.

I already have a builder to do the work.

How does he know what to so without a design?

Most websites will highlight the bigger, most impressive works they've been involved with. That doesn't mean they still wouldn't take on smaller jobs like these. These types of jobs are the bread & butter type jobs which don't require as much work and they get paid for quicker, in between waiting for payments from bigger jobs.

If their website says they do residential projects, ring them up or email them and enquire if they be interested.
