The reduced speed limits for rural local roads come into effect today, 7th Feb

One to watch - the reduced limit (60kph) applies to the new port access route in Drogheda.

The road sign at each end of the road - white circle with black diagonal lines - is the sign for max speed limit for rural roads. The road isn't an extension of the N51 (not yet anyway), so has a lower speed limit.

Given the bus bays built into the road, giving suitable parking, I'm sure we'll see a speed van on that road before too long!

That brand new urban road designed to safely take heavy haulage vehicles is exactly what comes to mind when you are trying to explain to someone what is representative of a typical local rural road.
