As per the title, what's going on with the price of flights? It seems to have skyrocketed. Last year flights in Oct booking early were around 1800 for three Dublin to Chicago direct... now they are over 5 grand. Similar flying to South of France in June... was about 800 last year and now 1600. I know that there is inflation in everything, but doubling of prices just seems unreal. So, anyone know why the dramatic increase?

Return flights to Chicago at the end of June are 600 quid.

Return flights to Nice at the end of June are 160 quid.

Don't know where you're getting these prices from. DUB/ORD coming in about E650/700 for summer travel

Just to say, comparing direct flights only as well

In both cases you seem to be travelling at or close to a holiday weekend in Ireland. I'd have thought that modifying the dates of travel is likely to yield different results, or will at least enable you to see whether it is cheaper on other dates around the same time. Booking this far out locks you in at current prices, whereas better deals may be possible later if bookings are soft, or there are seat sales covering the period.

I suspect the fact that the Irish rugby team are due to play the USA in Chicago in late october/early november 2025, will have a huge effect on the prices. Dates not confirmed as yet. Airlines probably know the dates already.

Suspect it has to be connected to your chosen dates all right. Take the Carcassone one with Ryanair:

    Your dates - Monday June 2 to Saturday June 7 - shows €399 p.p.

But go a week later - Monday June 9 to Saturday June 14 - basic return fare drops to €210.

Or go a week earlier - Monday May 26 to Saturday May 21 - and the basic return fare would be just €123.

I noticed prices jumped massively when I searched mid-week, but then dropped again on Saturday. Ended up finding a decently priced return to Spain through https://buyairfarelastminute.com after refreshing a few times. Not sure if it's always like that, but timing really made a difference in my case. Also, clearing cookies seemed to help a bit — flight was cheaper on my phone than on my laptop.
