Recommendation for a restaurant in Dublin on a Sunday

Up for a gig in The Academy in middle of February (16th to be precise) with the missus.

Should be checked into hotel by 3.30pm or thereabouts so looking for somewhere good to eat.

Don't mind if it's in the upper scale - been to D'Olier Street and loved it - but slim pickings in terms of opening hours (most closed Sundays) and most that are open have been limited availability.

So any recommendations would be appreciated.

    hi,

Winding Stair on the quays is good.

Soul seafood (behind Powerscourt) if you like fish.

777 on Georges Street nice too if you like Mexican - good buzz there and nice cocktails

Aperitivo on Nassau St, if you like Italian.

You are a khaki coloured bombardier, it's Hiroshima that you're nearing.

    777 is nice

    Thanks all.

777 looks like the business.. wife isn't a huge fan of Mexican food so will need convincing.

Winding Stair or Aperitivo both look like solid backups.

I'd second Winding Stair - it just gorgeous, really lovely room, very low key but excellent quality.

Or alternatively any of the FXB's around town - my personal favourite is Parkgate Street, you can get served downstairs in Ryan's which is one of the nicest old pubs in town and has an excellent pint, or upstairs in the restaurant itself which is also lovely.

    Roly's

Terra Madre, Chez Max, Coppinger, Row Wines, Balfes, La Cave or Piglet.

Roly's isn't in town and has gone downhill hugely in recent years.

Loads of great places to eat in town, but yeah, check opening times. Poster above mentioned Coppinger, for example, but it doesn't open on Sundays.

777 and Bootleg are both great, if loud.

Big Fan does awesome modern Chinese small plates. Little Dumpling is great for dumplings, as the name suggests, as is CN Dumpling.

On the "doesn't look like much but the food is great" side of things are Afanti, Lee's Charming Noodles and Andra Bhavan.

    Featherblade is always excellent.

And I haven't been in years, but I never had a bad meal in Dada.

Krewe on Capel St is decent and down the road from The Academy

^ Krewe looks really good - thanks!

Krewe is only ok, imo. More of a case of quantity over quality any time I've been there, but that's obviously a personal thing. All Bar Chicken is the better option if you're eating on Capel St.

I have to disagree. Never left krewe hungry. Been to all bar for lunch once and it was perfect for just that - lunch. It’s got a fast food vibe

Have been to Featherblade, Krewe and All Bar Chicken - enjoyed them all. Featherblade burger was lovely and with a side of Mac N Cheese I left the place stuffed.

Well that was kind of my point, that Krewe is more about the portion size than the quality of the food, imo. And if you're all about a big feed, then it's probably a good choice. I just don't particularly like feeling like I need a nap after my dinner!

Assuming you want somewhere that's within striking distance of The Academy, off the top of my head…

Fish Shop in Smithfield, if you like seafood

Sister 7 / Fidelity in Smithfield (Asian small plates)… Definitely a fun option, buzzy and surprisingly good value option. Dumplings, bao, fried chicken etc.

Both of the above are a short Luas ride away from The Academy.

The Winding Stair has been mentioned and it is a bit of a classic, but if I were to criticise it, I would say it's the safe option. It's modern Irish cooking done very well, but it's not the most exciting. Its sister restaurant The Woollen Mills is also right next door and another option, a little cheaper / more casual.

Just off Capel St you have a couple of very good casual options… Pickosito is very authentic Mexican canteena (although you mentioned your view doesn't like Mexican, so it's out), and Biang Biang does x'ian Chinese food, hand-pulled noodles etc. These are going to be walk-in options, and you'd be in and out in 45 minutes.

Andra Bhavan on either Marlborough St or Middle Abbey Street for good Indian food.

If you like Neapolitan pizza then Pi has an outlet just across the river in Temple Bar.

Checking OpenTable will give you options for further afield.

Italian on Crow St called Il Vicoletto.

Definitely my favorite Italian in Dublin.
