Dimmer on LED Downlight

Hi all, just looking for some advice before I start approaching electricians for quotes. I'm looking to install some LED dimmable downlights in a hallway. The current lights are controlled by two separate switches either end of the hall. Is it possible to replace the existing switches with two dimmers to control the lights?

Replacing one of the switches with a dimmer should work, using two would have the two dimmers in series when the lights are on, not sure it would work and even if it did, you'd be messing with both dimmers the whole time.

You need specific dimmable LEDs and you need a specific type of dimmer switch.

The alternative might be to fit a smart bulb with the current setup, either standalone with its own remote or connected to a Nest or Alexa system.

Thanks alias. If I went the route of one dimmer switch and one standard, am I right in thinking that if lets say the dimmer is set to half that would also impact the other switch? Or would the other switch just be standard on / off?

The dimmer and switch would both turn on and off the light and the brightness would be set by the position of the dimmer, even if you turned it on at the other switch.

I've a pain in my hole replacing led down lights in the house, they're everywhere, a lot to be said for a lightbulb imo!

I hear you, prefer the aesthetic of them myself and I've a few in the kitchen going strong for five years now so content enough to put a few more in!

They should last longer then other type. You must be buying really cheap poor quality ones.

sometime it’s easier and cheaper to just replace the bulb
