Hi everyone. Hoping for some help. No satellite signal because of the storm which moved the satellite dish. Any way I can rectify this as earliest engineer visit is next Thursday. Thanks

Unless you can easily and safely reach your dish yourself, no.

I would say many are going to be over loaded with call outs , have you tried other non sky sat installers ??

No. Will just wait at this stage. Shouldn't complain. Got away lightly with the storm

Mother in laws TV is the same, if you're out of contract are you better off cancelling and coming back? Or should I find a local satellite installer?

I would suggest ringing them (assuming she is still a pay monthly customer) and say she wants to cancel. Not guaranteed but it's likely Sky will make an offer for her to stay and with a bit of wrangling she might be able to negotiate a free call out by an installer. 2 issues but. Firstly she would have to agree to a new 12 month contract and secondly Sky appear to be pushing dish customers over to streaming these days so getting the dish sorted (for free) might be a bit of a struggle. In any event a call will clarify those matters.

I wouldn't be sure of the cost to get an independent installer out but I'm guessing maybe about 100 Euro for a non complex set up. Some of the regulars here could provide a more accurate figure.

Yeah, I'd say you're not far off.

@MarkR has your MIL got Sky+ HD or Sky Q? If it's HD, they probably won't entertain any offers for the "legacy" box but might offer something if she upgraded to Sky Q. Though as muffler says, they're pushing as many people as they can onto Sky Stream.

Hence looking on Donedeal prices around E65.

And if houses dont have Broadband Sky Stream a no no then ?

My dish moved resulting in no signal, I rang Sky today for a call out, they flat refused as I still have Sky +, fella wanted to upsell me Sky Q , I refused and just wanted a call out to fix dish and pay for it, still got a NO even after threatening to cancel.

Result I booked a local fella calling out on Monday who charges 75e according to his website.

Only got power back yesterday and rang today as no signal and told 20th Feb. Worth trying to adjust the direction myself? Seems fairlty secure and no damage to cables so hoping a slight adjustment might work

Yes moving it 10-20mm one way and then the other is likely to pick them up again. I'd spray some penetrating oil on the nuts before trying to open them, I find as the fittings get older the bolts have a tendancy to shear off with the rust.

Or just flex the dish left/right/up/down slightly while checking if the signal level/quality changes on the box, 2 person job.

Photo alignment marks before you start as you have a starting point.

get this no signal error a few times a week now, nothing to do with dish or cables. Reboot the box (Sky Q) and it’s fine. Went through support, as far as they know I have no signal at all, will be 3.5 weeks before an engineer will get to me.

Customer 12 years and currently paying 140 a month and also have broadband.

Time to move to free to air, joke of a company
