Consider a corolla hybrid instead of diesel?

Looking around for a car and although planned on diesel, having done a bit of research I'm considering a used corolla hybrid, maybe 2020-2022.

It appears they have decent fuel economy without the potential diesel headaches ?

Mostly short commutes 25km and a weekly run down country around 250km.

They’re a very dependable car and capable of very good mpg. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one if you’re looking for something like that.
the drawbacks are that you’ll often see them for sale for what they were new 4 years ago. The price has crept up, and they’re holding good values second hand.
The interior can also feel a little cheap compared to other cars in that class, but it’s not terrible or anything.

Impressive economy and they are recently refined too.

I don't like the CVT transmission though. Doesn't feel lineal.

What about the Suzuki Swace?

Twins (with Corolla) seperated at birth! Only comes in estate version, holding in value similar to Corolla so maybe not enough to entice buyers. The spec is between Luna and Sol in Corolla range.

Had a quick run in a Corolla yesterday. Seemed nice enough drive and the build quality well up from the plastic days of old.

Shocking rear legroom though. I'm 5'6" and set the drivers seat up to suit. Hopped into the rear passenger seat after the drive and my knees were pressed up against the back of the drivers seat. Boot was tiny too (hatchback version)
