THat mifa9 is not terrible outside.

I wasn't familiar with it at all and when I saw the hideous comments above, I was expecting Ssangyung Rodius levels of ugly but as these family buses go, its not awful but prices really are nuts now.

I find it hard to contemplate having the same car for ten years but having to look at the Maxus on my driveway even for a day…..

    Kia EV9 all the way.

    It's definitely terrible.

That's the sort of motor that makes you feel a bit sad every time you open your front door in the morning, knowing you've spent 80 grand on a car that only looks good if you've forgotten to put your glasses on.

I honestly don’t see anything wrong with that car at all. I was expecting way worse. That used one seems decent value but no doubt they will depreciate like mad being a niche Chinese EV

Ua it's a family bus which is never going to be pretty but compared to some ugly things of the past, it's inoffensive...... don't get me wrong. I wouldn't be buying one even if I had a wife and a heap of kids .

To be fair I have seen worse. It's still a level of ugly that take take away joy from owning it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,286 ✭✭✭extra-ordinary_

In fairness, the EV9 is fairly hideous itself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 905 ✭✭✭Splinters

I think it's lovely and considering I'm the one going to be paying for it I'm fairly sure that's all that matters 😜

To be fair it'd be a fierce boring world if we all liked the same things.

Get the car, you've thought about it anyway and you're comfortable with repayments, good to see some nice things on the road

This ad looks better than all their official ads in regards outside looks.

It looks like a reject car from a 1970s sci fi film

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 26,108 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Really? Basically a knock off land rover. Not my cuppa tea but it will tick alot of boxes for alot of people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,286 ✭✭✭extra-ordinary_

Yes, it appears it does. To me, all I see are car designs that seem to look like some child's interpretation of what a Range Rover might look like, or else maybe a bit like those toy cars for very young children that are just some generic Tonka or whatever, with no small moving parts, the child still too young to be given real model cars.

Can't really argue with that, most electric cars are not great looking, even the LR I was saying the EV9 was imitating, suppose my point was, in my opinion it was far more acceptable than the other one but neither are good looking cars. Those who kept their electric cars looking like cars have done the best in terms of branding eg Skoda Enyaq.

For what it's worth I prefer the look of an EV9 over a Range Rover. The kind of money I'll be spending on one could easily buy a 2023 high spec Range Rover. I'd just rather the EV9. Everyone's use case and preferences will vary but for me it's a far nicer option.

My boss (in a European mainland country). He drove 4 of us 300km in his EV 9. Yes from the outside it looks big and a bit boxy. But inside the tech is great, it's super comfortable, very spacious. Definitely think if it fits your needs it's a great car. Really suprised me

I love how this car looks.

But its going to cost you over 100k, and it's not a 100k car.

If you were to factor in the investment return on 1k per month in the markets for 6 years, it's over 135k.

If you want the car, get it, but give it back at 36 months.

Wait a year and buy it for 25k less too!

Someone needs to take the hit and buy new so the rest of us can pick up a bargain 2nd hand!

If it works for you, get it OP. But definitely leave yourself the option of trading in after PCP ends and starting again

You could compare any depreciating asset to its equivalent investment return and it's going to seem unfavorable. I don't view my car as an investment. Its a utility tool that provides me a functional service. In this case I'm happy to pay for a higher quality service. So once I'm satisfied I'm getting value for the money I'm spending that's more than good enough for me.

Turn the question around, what other EV offers the same size, spec and features for less?

By all means have a look yourself but I can save you the hassle. There isn't another EV the same size, with the same spec available for less.

I appreciate the advice but this post really isn't about whether or not it's the right car for me. I'm certainly not trying to convince anyone else it's right for them. However I can assure I've looked into this enough to be comfortable it's right for me.

Go for it, post some pics when you get it. You've thought about the finances and happy to keep it long term and keep paying it off.

If i was comfortable in the 80k bracket, I would be looking at an ev9 closely too

Offers more than same money in Audi, BMW, merc etc and they are not 7 seaters, ID buzz is a better 7 seater I imagine and cheaper but it's a van and although stylish, not really a direct competitor as they are so different. It only really has 1 competitor as regards size and body style and that's the much more expensive volvo.

Just buy it, and best of luck with it.

    Ev9= good

    Maxus= bad

Time is contagious, everybody's getting old.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 905 ✭✭✭Splinters

Cheers, exactly that Volvo is it's closest comparable thats available in the Irish market. I wouldn't doubt it's a superior car but it's a much higher price too.

Im sure in a few years there'll be other options for similar size and spec EVs but for now the EV9 is the one that makes the most to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,163 ✭✭✭freddieot

Might be superior in some way but obviously not enough for Volvo to offer a 7 year warranty with it. The Kia is the right choice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,973 ✭✭✭djan

I've seen a few more EV9 and have to say its a good looking car, definitely stands out due to size and styling but in a good way.

A lot of badge snobbery here but it simply offers unbeatable value for a fully fledged 7 seater when compared to the competition. Yes it is expensive and not a "good investment" but it's nobody's business how one spends their money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 905 ✭✭✭Splinters

The investment aspect of it Im ignoring completely. Every car is a depreciating asset so looking at it in terms of what that money could earn you if invested is just a bizarre way to look at it.

Fully agreed on the badge snobbery. Its certainly a departure for Kia and they're most expensive car to date but that doesnt make it any less of good car. I honestly couldnt care less which badge is on the car. I care about the functionality and features I'll have available during the years of ownership and thats really all Im interested in. This car could be made by Aldi for all I care, if it had the same spec and features then thats what Im paying for.
