Virgin Media One - proud to be A Public Service Provider?

What is this latest thing now with Virgin Media One saying underneath it "Proud to be a Public Service Broadcaster"?
Does it mean they are taking a wedge out of the RTE licence fee and running adverts as well for revenue?

I doubt it. I would say they are just saying that they are proud to provide to the Public. Maybe it makes them feel better.

About 7.5 percent of the TV licence fee goes into the Sound and Vision Fund, a scheme operated by Comisiún na Meán. All broadcasters in Ireland, including Virgin, can access this fund, which is designed to subsidise programming that falls into the broad 'culturally relevant' category.

So as Virgin broadcasts some programming funded under this scheme, they technically can claim to have a 'public service' element. However I do think they are taking the piss with this "Pround to be a public service broadcaster" line.

Yes they most certainly were/are taking the piss with that line.

You vpukd not trust them to always have news for instance. Around Christmas that have none and when that have Rugby it's off again accept for headlines later on. Thet are s joke the way some of it's run. At least you can rely on RTE you can not with Virgin Media.
