Are mechanical derailleurs the same for rim and disc groupsets?

Silly question maybe but, say for ultegra 11 speed mechanical - are the derailleurs the exact same for both r8000 rim and r8020 disc?

I can't help only to say that it's not a stupid question at all. If I've learned anything it's that making assumptions about compatibility is the rock you could easily perish in.

The derailleur is compatible, but the lever won't be, cable brakes cant be controlled by hydro lever and vice versa.

*there are a few varients to this, like cable lever attached to hydro calipers or cable disk calipers.

Yeah, I figured that. I was looking at buying a groupset but I have a crankset already and then got to thinking what else I had and then what I actually needed to buy to get a complete group.
