    Disibility allowance

got accepted for Disabilty Allowance on january 3rd Of this year and got my first payment on the 8th of January.

I picked up my first payment on the 8th

I'm confused as to why I didnt receive any arrears at all.
My letter says "you have been awarded a Disability Allowance from Wednesday 8/01/2025 You have been assessed as having means of 0.00 per week. Details of how your means were assessed are set out in the enclosed statements."

Below that it says "arrears off Allowance due from 27/11/2024 to 8/01/2025 less any other payment made on your behalf for this period, and less any other payments that have occurred will issue after a later date. PLEASE NOTE, If you were in receipt of, or being claimed for on another Social Weldare or Health Service Executive payment for this period you may not be due any arrears, as there payments must be deducted from Disabilty Allowance."

From when I applied to get Disability Allowance on the 27/11/2024 and got accepted in january 3rd 2025 I was recieving Job Seekers of €141.70 a week. Now I'm getting € 244 on Disabilty. Could someone please help me figure out Why i never got any arrears? Considering job seekers is almost a 100 euro less a week

Much appreciated and thanks in advanc

    Did you get

Supplementary welfare payments while waiting? If so these are deducted from arrears. You don't get paid twice. There should be a few quid coming with the difference between swa and da. It might take a few weeks

”..you may not be due any arrears..”

Give it time. If you’re owed anything they’ll pay you.

The letter explained if any arrears owed they would be paid. You were on a Jobseekers payment whilst the DA application was being processed. It's very doubtful any arrears are owed.

The Basic rate for Both is the same at €244 PW. Had you not been in receipt of any SW payments during the period DA application was being processed, you'd be entitled to arrears from the DOA for DA.

Other allowances /Benefits such as living alone allowance are not paid in arrears as you had no entitlement until such time DA was approved.

    No arrears payable IMO

From my reading of this, you were on JS while waiting so they say :

"Below that it says "arrears off Allowance due from 27/11/2024 to 8/01/2025 less any other payment made on your behalf for this period, and less any other payments that have occurred will issue after a later date."

To me that means you will get the difference paid to you at a later date.

Arrears usually take about 3 weeks to issue - the priority is to get the weekly payments out first.

When DA approved, a Generic, letter will state if arrears applicable, they will be paid, as the OP was in receipt of a SW payment already, equal to DA payment in value, highly unlikely any arrears are owed or payable.

I'm on DA over a year & got a similar letter, No arrears where owed to me as I was on a CE scheme, prior to moving onto DA

Hi OP, you will get the difference of the 2 payments in a few weeks time, it takes them a bit of time to get things in order when you’ve been on a different payment. You will get all the back money minus what you received already from jobseekers.

The OP is entitled to the full rate of DA from the date they applied. The means test is different from the Jobseekers means test and they were on a rate of €141.70, so they were paid €102.30 short for about 5 or 6 weeks. They are owed the difference and will receive it in the coming weeks.

The initial letter is to get you up and running on the system to ensure yiu get paid.

Arrears are usually paid 2/4 weeks after your first payment.
