    there’s been 94 M5’s registered in 251 so far, it’s insane. There wouldn’t usually be 1 or 2 maybe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,391 ✭✭✭User1998

Theres a few Lamborghini Urus’s being registered as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,013 ✭✭✭creedp

No surprise really, thanks to our wonderfully environmentally friendly tax regime the new more powerful M5 phev is up to €60k cheaper than the previous model

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,129 ✭✭✭goochy

I prefer the M5 to lambo . A few hybrid lambos for sale . Give me a top of the range Range rover or Mercedes G class any day . Not glorified audis

bmw absolutely laughing this year, filling their boots with the phev’s when they have no EV’s bar perhaps the iX1.

there’s almost 700 X5’s this year too, it’s by far the biggest selling luxury car in the country, higher numbers than the likes of the Clio ffs. I see them absolutely everywhere (all of them in crayon with the msport body kit bits 😏 🥱)

    Seeing alot more Q7 and Q8 this year . What's causing it . Low finance/ pcp ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,013 ✭✭✭creedp

Again the phev model is €20k cheaper than the heretofore darling of low emissions diesel version and approx €1k a year less to tax

And no doubt PCP has a major influence, if 83% of all new Volkswagens are financed on PCP (2023 data ) then I'm sure the same can be said for most other car sales, People are buying cars well beyond the price they would have in the past before PCP was available.

Gone are the days people looked at the price tag, now they just ask how much deposit and how much per month.

I've been watching the Cork numbers going up into five figures. 251 C 11000 is a New Holland!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,094 ✭✭✭sk8board

yes and no - we are on our 5th or 6th VW pcp and the only reason is because it’s 0% interest.

Why buy the car outright when the pcp is the same deal, but you don’t lose the opportunity cost of investing that money elsewhere.

That will explain a lot of that 83%, so I wouldn’t assume it’s a direct correlation to other manufacturers

So you got 6 new cars 40K + to save cash because of 0% interest on a highly depreciating asset ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,094 ✭✭✭sk8board

I’m ok with borrowing money at 0% over 3 years on an asset depreciating about €3-4k/pa. I can get a good return on €40k correctly invested and cover most if not all of that - investments being my job helps naturally.

or to put it another way, we pay €320/pm between us for a new car with zero costs for the 3 years except for an 18mnth service, and then flip it into a new one after 35 months.
VW have always looked after us. it’s really simple - do us a deal, get the sale. It’s been the same sales guy for all 5 cars too, and sometimes he’ll call up with a deal and if it makes sense we’ll agree over the phone and someone will drive out the new car and bring off the old one.
the repayments have never changed from €325.

every single deal covered the deposit for the next one, so the original small balloon is still there, pretty much unmoved.

If you’re wondering why VW churn out so much volume on PCP, we’re your case study. I wouldn’t move outside them, yet anyway.

I'd say PCP suits you well after reading that. 🙄

Caught in the never never loop to avoid the Balloon and the Interest that follows………

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,129 ✭✭✭goochy

    Keeping up with jones

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭Higgo84

I buy a new car ever 15 minutes.

Imagine being seen in a 16 minutes old car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,500 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

Pretty much and any and every excuse to make it sound like it's a good way to buy cars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,094 ✭✭✭sk8board

God the bitterness. It’s a thread about 251 cars ffs. You’d be better off staying out of it, but you might spot a car you’ll buy in future, who knows.

I can clear that balloon any day I want. Remember we’re not all like you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,500 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

Bitterness me hole, 6 PCP payments, well afford to pay the balloon lol.

That's right, not a lot like me these days, No mortgage since age 37, no rent.

    you’re unreal 😂.
Like I said, everyone is different. I can’t imagin me the bitterness when you actually see an expensive car on the road. How do you even stir outside - there’s been 700 plug-in x5’s registrrred in Ireland in the last 5 months - it must literally be killlllling you 😂😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,391 ✭✭✭User1998

To be fair, €320 per month between two people at 0% sounds incredibly appealing to me..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,500 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

Bitterness seeing an expensive car on the road ? f1ck no, I laugh me arse off knowing it's all PCP and they'll be going again after 3 years and again because they can't face the big balloon or the 10% interest on the refinancing of the balloon.

I could easily get another PCP on an expensive car, for what ? who would I impress ? I don't set out to impress anyone. Cars are not worth the price tag today, they're bags of seriously over priced shyte. I won't give the Government the tax, thieving scum.

I don't like SUV, never have, never will. They are a scourge on our rural roads and villages and I hope there is a super massive tax on them some day hopefully sooner.

See, you're the one who gives a **** about the new car impressing the work colleagues and the neighbours showing off sh1t you can't afford where as I couldn't give a f1ck if people think I'm a Bum with no money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,500 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

320 a month because either the car doesn't cost a lot to begin with or he said he's doing low mileage, maybe he is or not or put a large deposit either way, his 6th PCP is screaming the fact he can't afford to pay off the car at the end and it's cheaper in the short term to keep the PCP going ignoring the final balloon payment and the amount of money spent after 6th PCP, shocking stuff. The Government really need to clamp down of dealers offering PCP but I suppose they are making a fortune in Tax……..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,845 ✭✭✭BrianD3

To be fair, that poster you quoted is an unusual case. In other threads he says he has multiple rental properties and is retired young/living off unearned income. I'd still be dubious about the claim that PCPing a car for 3 years and investing the 40k instead would cover "most if not all" of the depreciation.

Regardless, the vast majority of people buying VWs, Audis etc.on PCP are not superstar investors nor professional landlords. We are living in an era of debt and salary fuelled decadent consumerism. It's not just cars either, people have lost the run of themselves when it comes to spending on everything from houses to eating out. The economy, or at least that in the Greater Dublin region, is boiling.

I heard on the radio that deliveroo now offer the option to pay for takeaways priced over €35 in instalments…

Forget about pcp, that is a sign there is something wrong with our economy/society.

Can we get back to 251 cars now though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,091 ✭✭✭GustavoFring

My wife picked this up last month, 85 sportline, last of the pre facelifts, loads of options and a bit of a discount with the new one being out.

The amount of 251 I seen in shopping centre car park today was unreal as I was driving around looking for parking space!

Obviously everyone heading to spend even more money to get out of rain😁

ID4 was in the running alright. Along with the tavascan and explorer. All the same thing really. Main decider on this was the little bit extra boot space and spec. She’s happy with it, similar space to the V60 it replaced but it’s easier to get the kids in and out of.
