Wages not paid

Hi, I'm usually paid fortnightly and was supposed to get paid today but I wasn't, I checked my revenue and it hasn't been updated, I checked my work email and realised that I haven't gotten a pay slip since November. It's my first pay since before Christmas and im completely broke, I owe money and have bills to pay, I was relying on my wages this week. There's no one I can contact as they're all on Christmas holidays till Monday. I don't understand it as my manager took a morning to work from home so he could do the "Christmas wages" as he said himself. He sends them off to the secretary then who inputs them into the system. Is there anything I can do? I'm sickened!

Is the company still in business?

That would be a really silly thing to do. You have no idea if this is an employer error or banking error.

I walked into BOI this morning to lodge a cheque. My receipt has a stamp saying December 2024 but a written in date of February.

I hope you get sorted OP. The banks will be on weird turn around times due to the week that is in it.

I didn't mean it in a smart Alec way, but there have been plenty of companies that have gone 'bang' without any regards for their employees let alone their customers.

Was a fairly topical subject just prior to Christmas on Joe Duffy.

If it happened to me, I would call up the manager or HR to find out what happened.

In our company, if you escalate a ticket to HR, they dial in to fix it pronto.

Thanks, I was thinking it could be the banks but if it was, my revenue account would show my wages and the date of payment but theres nothing there.

Ive literally got 0.00 in my bank, im so stressed out. Cant believe this, especially this time of year!

No I know you didnt, thank you for your reply. I'd know if something had happened to my place of work.

It's probably a delay with the time of year I was supposed to get paid last Friday and it didn't hit my account until Monday.

Did you contact your manager and ask if your wages were sent?

Theyre not back in work till Monday, I could try this tomorrow but I wont get a reply. The managers work phone is always turned off during holidays and weekends.

Do you have a HR Department in your company?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,069 ✭✭✭mondeoman72

With a bit of luck you will wake up in the morning with it lodged. Its that time of year when feck ups happen. Hopefully you get sorted promptly

Is there anyone outside of management you can contact like a colleague and see if they've been paid?

Dreadful advice from somoeone who has no skin in the outcome.

Thanks, there's no one to contact, we're a small team. I can email the secretary, but she won't see it until Monday. Has anyone ever had their wages go into their bank without the revenue site being updated?

Most likely a typical end of year/holiday screw up. There is not much you can do to get your hands on the cash. You could try ringing the bank and see if there is a pending transition with a value date for Friday or Monday. They many not have access to such information or they may not be allowed to give it out, but that is all I can suggest.

Did you check with any colleagues if they got paid?

The worrying thing for me would be the fact that you have not received any payslip since November. Would that be the start or end of November? Furthermore, will you have any Direct Debits or standing orders which may be impacted by this loss of pay.

It's all very well for people to say 'its Xmas, it's probably a glitch with the bank etc' but if it negatively impacts you not only financially now but also negatively on missed payments on your CCR, well then I would definitely be looking for recompense.

Just checking revenue for my own wages, my payday is down as Jan 2nd but it landed into AIB on 1st Jan. Again, I hope you get sorted quickly and its all a seasonal delay

Email whoever you report to. If there's an out of office reply, maybe it will list who to speak to in an emergency.

Do you have a mobile number for anyone on the team? I wouldn’t care that they’re not back to work yet. Call them and tell them you won’t be able to afford the transport to work on Monday if it’s not sorted asap.

    Re

    That should never happen now.

Between it and the lack of payslips, it sounds bad.

    Phone your manager at home.

Contact any colleague you can to compare notes - use personal contact details if possible.

Check the Revenue site again, checking tax loaded there since your last payslip. If there is none, then print out proof and go in to Welfare for advice ASAP. (They may be able to give you Supplementry ... something)

    Start job hunting immediately.

If you have no food, go to Vincent de Paul (or similar in your area).

Sending payroll to bank for payment and submitting your payroll run to Revenue are 2 seperate transactions. It's possible that the bank transaction is done but the Revenue transaction hasn't been submitted to Ros yet, the deadline for bank is usually by 10 am on the Wednesday and submission to Revenue can be submitted on the Thursday or Friday. With many companies not back until Monday; I suspect Revenue will be getting many submissions. The bank payment could have been done and submitted in December with a future payment date , but with Wed being a public holiday it added a further complications. Payroll at the Christmas break is a total pain, trying to get the holiday pay sorted, closing down the 2024 payroll system and setting up 2025, realising the first payroll of 2025 has to be done before the holiday break, the bank holiday falling on the Wed added a further complication, if employee and company had same bank it happened on 31st, but if employee had a different bank it could be 2nd or even 3rd Jan.

You should Always receive your payslip that's the law !

I know its stressful for you and sincerely hope it's sorted for you soon.

    Regards

Try your local community welfare officer you obviously need a little help out it's gone very hard out there to keep everything paid even for people with a job.

They eventually got paid in, it turned out to be an issue with the bank.
