The RTE "725 Million" myth

A lot of people are misinformed and think RTE got a "bailout" of 725 Million, It reminds me of the "My car tax pays for my water" fools back in 2012-2016. The reality is, all RTE is getting in this top-up is the amount they would have been getting for the past 15 years if the licence fee collection had been collected properly when Pat Rabbitte first announced it needed to be done.

They blew €2.2 million on the pet project of Toy Show The Musical with zero actual analysis if there was a market for it and at one stage were rumoured to be bidding €10 million for 49% of Joe.ie. If the events around Tubridy didn't come to light lord knows what new ideas they would have come up with.

I personally don't get The late late Toy show, but it is as big a part of Irish culture as Donald's Ducks Christmas is to Sweden, with everyone from multinationals like Primark to the local Spar cashing in on it the past decade by selling tat like "toy show night pajamas" and "toy show night treat boxes", for that reason, I don't blame RTE for trying a punt on trying to expand the brand with something like toy show the musical

RTE are getting 725 from the Tax Payer, via way of the licence fee and PRSI* payments.
