Cost for mini CU

    Hi all.

What's the typical price range for a mini consumer unit to be installed by a REC (parts & labour)?

I have a REC coming to replace an under-rated CU and thought it would be a good idea to have the mini CU installed while the new board is going in. There is already a spare 32A breaker to run to the mini CU, which will be directly behind the main CU on the same wall. It will be in a sealed side passage essentially and I estimate no more than 2m of cable to run.

Purpose will be to use the mini CU to power my shed which has a double socket and light running off what I think is only 2.5mm flexi. Shed is to be rewired next summer. I'll only be adding a couple of sockets, but I want to make it good and safe, which will include running 6 or 10mm armoured to the shed (about 15m cable run).

I would ask the REC to do it all, but I know they are very busy and just want the mini CU done while the main one is being replaced anyway.

Ideally looking for :Hager equipment to keep everything the same. What price range should I expect?

I was thinking around €200ish, because everything else is done or will be done as part of the enhanced board replacement. Would be nice for the REC to walk away with a few quid for a small add-on and I would then have the mini CU ready for the summer work. Thanks.

why not ask the rec to connect the new cable run to the upgraded distribution board and leave the cable coiled up outside until you are ready to bury/connect it up in the new year.ask him not to terminate it into the trip switch (32amp double pole mcb if 6or10mm)so it’ll only be a matter of him doing it when you are ready.
there are regulation heights for consumer units (including mini boards). And a stand alone will look horrible. The price difference will be negligible and it’ll be a much better job.

I just figured it would be easier to install the mini CU while the main board was being replaced. I'm not ready for the the cable run to the shed yet, as I have other plans. But I was thinking I might ask him to run a 6A lighting circuit from it that I can add lights to it for the side entrance.

I don't want to ask for much extra, because I know they are busy. I would just like this one part done for now, or I will end up doing it myself.

The mini CU will be about 1.8m from the ground. It will be in the side entrance, so don't really care if it's not pretty. Can't see why it would look horrible though, unless I'm misunderstanding what you meant.
