    Breaking news in Cavan,

Expected surge in deaths before the introduction of RIP.ie charges in January,

However on a positive note from 2025 , life expectancy in Cavan is expected to increase by at least 10 years , ( to avoid the RIP charges)

Today is the first day of the implementation of the €100 charge by The Irish Times to post a death notice on RIP.ie. A service that was previously free for the last 19 years. They can go #### themselves!

35,495 people died in Ireland last year.

If it’s the same next year. That website will have revenue from deaths of 3,549500 euros.

In addition the advertising revenue from the adverts.

Hopefully you didn't die today to stick it to them.

I'm planning on the same for the next fifty years- I'll show them.

Three new death notice platforms are launching in the coming weeks to rival RIP.ie

One newcomer claimed to have signed up at least 160 funeral directors for its platform.

People dying of cancer, ALS and other diseases that should be curable LONG AGO …. but the greed of waging war and spending money on arms has prevented proper research into these cures ….. and to make matters WORSE the GREEDY Irish Times rag buys rip.ie and charges 100 Euro for being dead ….. and they think the drug dealers are bad …..

No one should use this service until it is free again …. they can make their money from ads …..

  • Assume your theory should also extend to undertakers / florists / hotel providing the after funeral meal / clothes shops selling suits for the funeral / singers at the funeral / local radio station / gravestone makers etc etc

should all the above be boycotted because they are also running businesses linked to a funeral?

Simple answer is yes ….. more complicated answer is only what is absolutely necessary should be done …. that is undertakers …. clothes shops sell suits …. they are not to know what a person buys them for and anyone buying them especially for a funeral is foolish …. meals and drink and celebrations after funerals? Go home!! And do it at a happier occasion simple as …. cannot understand this culture …. am half Irish half Persian and do not understand the 'celebration' element of funerals endemic in both !!! …. singers at funerals simply should not be there …. go to the pub or theatre for a happy occasion ….

  • You're not celebrating death, you're celebrating the life and memories of the person in a setting where all that person's friends can actually gather

You realise undertakers where already charging a fee for RIP.IE back when it was free. I don't have a problem with a website charging for a service they provide. It is optional.

But I think an investigation into the practices of undertakers is long over due.

I was charged over 2000 euro for a cremation over 20 years ago. Looking on the crematorium website you can cremate a body for 500 euro. Undertakers need to be investigated.

Yes. They were charging a nominal fee(it certainly wasn't €100) for putting the death notice on RIP.ie. When there was a death in our family, we wrote the notice, gave them a photo and they put it up for us. Adding in the link for the mass webcam feed. And I guess they do advertise who the funeral undertakers are. But they also put up their phone number for any enquiries about the funeral.

It's one last thing you don't need to worry about when you're grieving. Now, it will be €100 more expensive, regardless of if you put it up yourself or the undertakers do.

Some people love publicity - just dying to be listed on RIP.ie 😊
