Here is the thing. If you need to watch a Youtube video for how to change a socket then there is a fairly high chance you will electrocute yourself anyway. So you might as well skip the Youtube video and just stick your fingers in the plugholes.

If you know how to wire a plug then you already have the necessary logic to loop a socket. All you need is a new socket and 2.5mm square cable, long enough to loop from an existing socket. Wire the socket as if it were a plug and run the cable up to the socket you are going to loop off. Switch off the socket at the switch board and verify there's no power going to it before proceeding. Then remove the existing socket and wire it as if it were a plug, there will already be existing wiring so just double it up. Turn the power to it back on and verify

The physical work of running a random cable from an existing socket to a new one is easy and easy to make it work but you would want to know what you are doing to ensure you are not taking spurs off spurs etc and overloading the line.

People have been electrocuted turning off mcbs and working on stuff

Reverse polarity is 1 example I know of where someone died , all looks well as plug doesn't work but mcb has switched neutral

I'd always be using a known working voltstick at the very last step after proving dead

A spark then won't be inadvertently touching copper on sockets on live installations , he'll be avoiding any contact and using VDE tools

Very simple steps that add less than a minute to the work

Is there an existing socket nearby? Is the wall it's going onto concrete or a partition wall?

Both will factor into the cost.

The 1960s days of running plug in heaters on cheap electricity are long gone and never coming back. These days a spur is most likely feeding a tiny load like a flat screen TV (usually under 100W) or maybe a fibre broadband ONT (under 5W)

I wouldn't recommend that a DIYer try to run a spur in a kitchen (kettles, toasters, air fryers, microwaves, George Formby grills etc) all substantial loads.

Maybe the BS1363 idea of having everything run off the same size socket regardless of the load was a mistake…? Most loads today are either small or tiny, apart from kitchen appliances, and fixed appliances and heat pumps. There's no real reason why a washer/dryer should run off the same type of socket as a wifi router.

I can't see any case for deviation from standard radial socket circuits and sockets for domestic, even with all the low-drain stuff in use now

It should work fine, there is no issue doing that.

In some cases, ring circuits will have been protected by 32A MCB’s and in this case you shouldn’t add a spur unless you fit a fused connection unit.

That's where the smaller sized sockets would come in. There were 3 different sizes under the old round pin system.

I didn't get your point in your original post. Yes different socket types would limit the chance of high draw items being used. I believe that is currently used for dedicated circuits for plug in lamps etc.
