    Hello,

I am looking to build my first ever PC and would appreciate some advice. I am looking for a PC for general gaming use and also for some occasional software dev (Visual Studio, Docker, SQL Server). I mostly play sim games such as Flight Sim, Assetto Corsa and Farming Sim.

My current rig is over 10 years old and although it has served me well, I think I am overdue an upgrade. I have recently began to experience frequent blue screens and I suspect the motherboard is dying. The specs of my current system are i7 2700k processor (3.50 GHz), Nvidia 1050ti (4 GB), 16 GB ram, 1 TB SSD.

For my new build, I am looking for a system that will handle the above games relatively well. Anything above 40 fps @ 1080p on ultra/high settings would be great. My budget is €900.

I have put together the following build:

    Key points:

    • AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 3 GHz 8-Core Processor
    • Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB
    • 32 GB Ram
    • ASRock B550M Pro4 Motherboard
    • I have not included any SSD on the list as I plan to reuse the 1 TB SSD that I currently have (Samsung 870 EVO)

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

If you trade-in your CPU, RAM & GPU to CEX, that gives you an extra 50-82 euro budget. Can use that for RTX 4060 Ti / 3070.

Rest of your system is balanced.

I would get a 1TB NVMe SSD, the motherboard supports it and use the old SSD for the additional storage.

Massive word of warning. AMD are set to annouce two new cards on January 5th. One in the €300 bracket and one in the €500 bracket. Not to mention Intel are coming out with their cards in the €200-€250 bracket on January 16th. Both have hinted that they are prepared to offer very good value at these ranges. Just so happens you are looking to buy into the mid to low end and at a bad time.

Edit: Didn't notice the Flight Sim requirement. Stay with the X3D.

That all said, I'd still hold off at this point. If you wanted, buy everything but the GPU and see where you are in January.

Thanks for this information, sounds like it would be wise for me to hold off on the GPU purchase for now and see what AMD and Intel have to offer in January.

I can move the Nvidia 1050ti (4 GB) from my current machine into the new rig as a temporary measure.

    Thanks
