Adding Manual Spring Power Mode or Converting AEG to Spring Power with G&G M1 Garand Model?

I know it’s an odd request. But I only play really casually and we enjoy using bolt actions - it kind of slows everything down a bit and makes it more like a game than a sport (not the way it’s meant to be played, but sure there you go).

Anyway, I just bought a G&G M1 Garand and I like the gun itself (ie the look and feel) but I just can’t get into the electric or gas systems.. I think it’s because they require charging/refilling and I’m reliant on something else… plus I really enjoy the tactile bit of pulling a bolt back. There are a few niggly bits with the gun anyway so I might even be bringing it back… but the answer to this might be the deciding factor

This may be sinful to suggest and I apologise in advance……. But would it be possible to convert the G&G from AEG to spring (by using the working hatch/bolt)? I know it’s probably a bit more work than just the hatch/bolt obviously, but still.

Nope. The spring in an AEG is confined within a closed gearbox that is tensioned by gears (powered by the electric motor). The mock bolt is not connected to the internals of that gearbox whatsoever. It is simply a spring on a rail.

I mean, if you want to spend months coming up with a bespoke manual spring-powered AEG, I will watch with great interest! xD

thanks for that - and what if I wanted to simply swap out the AEG internals for spring action internals? Would that be possible? Using the mock bolt as the bolt and connecting it to a regular spring action mechanism?

It's simply not possible. They are completely different systems and your Garand is only designed for one of them. It's like taking a diesel engine out of a car and trying to replace it with an electric one.

ok… I don’t really understand how it’s completely not possible though…. I’m talking about using the shell of the Garand and completely gutting the internals and modifying them ?

It's your rifle of course, but a bolt-action M1 Garand isn't really an M1 Garand, is it? Maybe you'd be happier with a replica of an M40/Model 700 sort of thing?

nope - I know it’s not accurate but I don’t really care about accuracy
